Team Leaderboard After 12 Games Into The 2023 Baseball Season

With a third of the season complete – Robbie Verst sports a lofty, team leading .472 Batting Average.  Verst also leads the team in Runs scored with 13, tied with Logan Meyer with 5 Doubles, and leads the team in walks taken with 8.  Three other Mustangs – Evan Moore (.323), Logan Meyer (314), and Derek Martin (.310) are hitting over .300.  As a team we hit .294.  Evan Moore is our RBIs king with 11.  Alex Amin has 10.  Evan Moore has hit 3 Home Runs   We are still looking for our first triple of the year.  Collectively we have been hit by 8 pitches.  Derek Martin has been plunked twice.  On the base paths we have stolen 8 bases in 11 attempts.

Robbie Verst, while not 100%, is happy to be playng first base and leading the team at the plate. He missed his entire Junior season with a knee injury suffered during the 21-22 basketball season.
Senior Logan Meyer, presently hitting .314 had to overcome an 0 for 7 start to the season. He too has battled nagging injuries.
Junior Alex Amin is having a breakout season. He is hitting .292 at the plate and is second only to Evan Moore in the RBIs department with 10, while playing a solid centerfield.

While not deep, our pitching corps has been reliable this season.  Upstart Junior Brandon Burkhardt has pitched 18.2 innings allowing only 3 earnid runs for a 1.12 ERA.  Veteran Senior Evan Moore has also pitched 18.2 innings, allowing merely 2 earned runs  He has struck out 23 opponent hitters, and sports a 0.75 ERA.  Colin Combs has made 4 mound appearances and is 1-1 on the campaign.  As a unit our pitching corps has a 2.94 collective ERA.  Sophomores Ben Volmer and Alex Noe comprise our bullpen.  They have both made five appearances and have hurled a combined 15.1 innings of work.  Our Mustangs are 7-5 on the season with narrow losses to both Harrison County and Mason County.  We are currently 3-0 against NKAC DivII Conference competition.

Senior Colin Combs encourages you to follow the Mustangs as we head to the All "A" next weekend.
Evan Moore, Junior Brandon Burkhardt, and Colin Combs anchor the Mustangs' pitching rotation. Moore has been dominant, making four appearances, where he has allowed 2 earned runs for a 0.75 ERA, good enough for a 2-0 win-loss record. Junior Brandon Burkhardt, pictured above, did not make a varsity appearance a year ago, but has burst on the scene, providng 18.2 innings of reliable work, giving up only 3 earned runs for a 1.12 ERA, and a 3-1 Win-Loss Record.

We will be back in action at home Monday and Tuesday with Lloyd coming to town on Monday for an NKAC DivII contest and Simon Kenton visiting on Tuesday.  Both games are slated for 5pm. We will then venture forth to Highlands on Wednesday and Pendleton County on Thursday for 5pm events.

UPDATE:  Since writing the artlcle above, I checked out the State Stats Leaders.  We are represented in several categories:

Evan Moore is represented in several categories  –  Home Runs  –  There are four players in the state who haver hit 4 home runs this spring.  Evan has hit 3 of them, along with 14 others, tying him for 4th Place .  His .0.75 ERA put him among leading pitchers at 47th.

Robbie Verst is in 27th place for Total Hits with 17, while he and Logan Meyer are tied for 32nd Place in the Doubles category with 5 apiece.

Our team ranks 11th in doubles with 20, 15th in Ovreall Hits at 101, and 34th in Home Runs with 4.

These stats are current through Friday, April 7th.  It is not a perfect science as I had to add in numbers from our Holy Cross game.
