A nice turnout, and an overflow but sedate, student section, with a nice representation of Junior High players in attendance, greeted our basketball teams and cheerleaders on Friday night as our Annual Green-White night tradition resumed after a one year hiatus due to the Covid pandemic.
Our fans were treated to serval notable performances. Freshman Parker Mulberry, who may not hit six three-pointers for the remainder of the freshman basketball season this year, stole the Freshman Boys exhibition spotlight by nailing all six of his 3-point shot attempts leading the Greenies with 18 points. Mulberry is an example of big things coming in small packages, as he barely weighs 100 pounds.
I thought the Girls Varsity really put on a nice, well-rounded performance, shooting lights out as a team, and utilizing any number of players in doing so. Bella Rowe, Olivia Lloyd, Hannah Kramer, Bentley Fisher and newcomer Zoey Meyer all drilled three-pointers. Lauren Macht played extremely strong in the post, while Cora Bertsch, Molly Kramer and Alexis Kaeff put in productive minutes. The girls played a fast-paced game that exhibited intense defense as well as a prolific offense.
On the boys side, big man David Govan was quiet in the first half, but demonstrated his ability to take over a game by scoring our first five field goals in the second half. Mason Sepate hit a trio of 3-pointers, with the majority of the JV/Varsity roster putting ink in the scorebook.
