Mustangs Draw of Mason County Our best Option, Lady Stangs Have similar Draw as 2020 and 2021
Our guys will put their Campbell County experience behind them and now focus on a re-match with Mason County, coming up at 6pm this Wednesday at Holmes High School.
At the draw meeting, there were two pills remaining in the bottle when it came our turn to draw. The number 4 pill would have matched us up with GRC, and the 2 matched us up with Mason County. We drew the #2.
We played Mason County tough back on February 10th in the Mason County Fieldhouse, but will have to be able to compete for all 32 minutes on Wednesday in the David Evans Memorial Fieldhouse in Covington.
GRC (George Rogers Clark) shares our upper bracket along with Robertson County. GRC are huge favorites not only to win Wednesday night, but also to cut down the nets next Tuesday night and win back-to-back 10th Region Championships. GRC is not a “traditional” 10th Region Team – their roster contains a pair of re-classified juniors, and three transfers, two of three whom are major contributors. Four of their five starters were named to the 15 man All-Region 1st, 2nd, and 3rd teams. They have four players who average double-figures. The Cardinals are 30-1, and their only loss was 59-57 to Dorman from South Carolina early in the season. Campbell County played them the closest of he remaining teams i the tournament, losing 76-65 back on opening night. In their most recent effort the Cards defeated Paris 114-52.
In the lower bracket, Campbell County received a favorable draw in that GRC drew opposite of them and, if they continue to play as they did in the district tournament, should receive little resistance from 7-20 Paris, who did upset Montgomery County in their district semi-finals. They would then play the winner of the Harrison County – Bracken County game which shapes up to be a dog-fight. Bracken County defeated them 62-58 earlier in the season. The Polar Bears also beat the Camels narrowly earlier in the season. However, I wouldn’t be a bit shocked to see the Camels in next Tuesday night’s championship game.

Our Lady ‘Stangs, the defending 10th Region Champs, will tip-off the 2022 renewal on Monday night in the 6pm game at Nicholas County High School. We will take on Bracken County who we also played in the 10th Region All “A” Classic back in January. In that game, Bracken County’s whiz-Freshman Nicole Archibald was injured, but has since returned and should factor large in Monday night’s event.
The girls too, share the upper bracket with GRC who come into the 10th Region Tournament with a 27-2 record, falling only to Tates Creek and Notre Dame. GRC will be heavy favorites to advance past Pendleton County in the Monday night nitecap.
The bottom bracket is comprised of Mason County, Campbell County, Nicholas County, and Montgomery County, with MoCo expected to advance to Saturday night’s championship game. This is the third year that we have drawn in with GRC, and opposite Montgomery County.
