Baseball Weekly Update: Mar. 21-25

March 21 - Mason County 9, BBHS 5 (8 Innings)

Bonus Outs Permit Mason County To Score Bonus Runs, the Result of 7 Brossart Errors. Royals capitalize on Mustang miscues and win 9-5 in extras. Eight of those runs were unearned. Meanwhile Mason County played error-free baseball. Alex Amin and Evan Moore Homered. Brandon Bezold and Mitchell Combs Doubled. Evan Moore Allowed One Earned Run on Four Hits while Striking Out 10 in Five Innings of work. Andrew Beck and Ryan Ebert Finished Up. Our two home runs are one short of last season’s total 3 Home Run output.

Brossart sophomore Alex Amin makes the grand tour after hitting a fourth inning two run home run.
Amin missed most of this past football, all of basketball and last springs baseball season due to various injuries.

Amin has the potential to be an impact player in all three of those sports moving forward.

March 23 - BBHS 15, Lloyd Memorial (NKAC D-II) 3

Mustang bats came alive in posting our first win of the season, a 15-3 decision over Lloyd Memorial in an NKAC Division II conference game. The Mustangs trialed 2-1 moving into the bottom of the third inning, when we exploded for 11 runs. Evan Moore hit his second home run of the season, a three run shot. Alex Amin hit his second dinger of the year, another two run shot, and Collin Combs hit his first of the season, which plated two runs. The Mustangs have now hit five home runs in two games, surpassing the team total of three of them a year ago.

Ryan Ebert, Collin Combs, and Alex Amin all had two hits apiece, with Combs knocking in 4 runs.

Mitchell Combs was the starting pitcher and the winner, going four complete innings, allowing 2 Runs on 3 hits while striking out 7. Mitchell Enderle came in to close it out, as the Mustangs completed the run-rule win in five innings. With the win the Mustangs post their first win of the year against a pair of losses. We will stay at home, hosting Ludlow at 5pm at St. Mary on Thursday.

MARCH 24TH  -  BBHS 11, LUDLOW 9

In a game highlighted by multi-run innings, the Mustangs had three of them and Ludlow two.  Brossart put up 4 in the 1st inning, 3 in the 4th, and 3 in the 5th.  The Panthers plated 5 in the 3rd and 3 more in the 4th..  Ryan Ebert had the hot bat for the Mustangs, going four for four at the plate with 4 RBIs.  Evan Moore went 3 for 3, including a double, and batted in 3 teammates   Brandon Bezold, Andrew Beck, and Logan Meyer each doubled.  Collin Combs got the start, hurling two innings and picking up the win.  Brandon Bezold and Logan Meyer filled out the remaining four frames.

On the season to date, Ebert is the team’s leading hitter, batting .500 on 7 of 14 with 7 RBIs.  Evan Moore is hitting .429, going 6-14 with a team high 10 RBIs.  The Mustangs get an early-season re-match with Harrison County on Friday at home in a 5:15pm start.

MARCH 25  -  HARRISON COUNTY 13, BBHS 4

Despite temperatures in the low 40s that kept me glued to my computer screen “watching” the game on Game Changer rather than venturing forth to the ballyard, Harrison County pretty much duplicated the effort laid upon our Mustangs a week ago in Cynthiana. this time prevailing 13-4. Much as in the game played on the hilltop, Brossart led early, blanking the Breds for the first two innings, before the flood gates opened and ten Breds crossed the plate in the top of the third. The big blow in the inning was a grand slam home run by Malachi Feeback who hit two out of the friendly confines, and netted 7 RBIs on the afternoon. Brossart’s Evan Moore countered with his third home run of the season – a two run shot in the bottom of the third inning.  Our guys scored four runs over three different innings, as Andrew Beck went 2 of 3 with a double, Moore was 1 of 2 with the home run, 2 runs scored and a pair of ribbies.  Collin Combs went 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBIs, and fan favorite Adam Bezold going 1 for 2 with a double.  Andrew Beck was our starting pitcher and took the loss.  With the win the Breds remain perfect at 6-0 while our Mustangs fall to 2-3.
