Mel Webster Honored Posthumously With the NKY Sports Hall of Fame Prestigious Bill Capel Award on August 17, 2022

8/18 Update:  Former Brossart Athletic Director and Softball Coach, Mel Webster, was posthumously presented the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame’s Bill Capel Award Wednesday night at a presentation ceremony at the Garden of Park Hills.

Accepting on Melvin’s behalf was Grady Brown. Grady enlightened the large crowd about Mel, and the regard in which he is held throughout the state for his work in gender equity.

The event was a who’s who of Northern Kentucky sports icons. Others receiving awards were Bob Griffin, Nancy Winstel, and Judy Gerding (The Point). Former NKU head basketball coach John Brannen was the feature speaker.

THE EVENT WAS TELEVISED BY ONE OF THE CABLE CHANNELS. I WILL ATTEMPT TO GET THE LINK OR FIND OUT WHEN THE SHOW REPLAYS AND POST IT HERE. GRADY BROWN DID A MASTERFUL JOB OF ENCAPSULATING MEL’S IMPACT ON WOMEN’S SPORTS AND SPORTS IN GENERAL IN NOTHERN KENTUCKY. HE SUMMED IT UP ACCURATELY BY SAYING THAT MEL “WAS A VERY SPECIAL PERSON.”

Original story, 8/17: This Wednesday, August 17th, Mel Webster will be honored posthumously with the Bill Capel Award at The Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame Annual Fundraiser at the Garden of Park Hills, 1622 Dixie Highway, Park Hills – The old Town & Country Restaurant next to CovCath. 
 
The event begins at 5pm  John Brannen will be the feature speaker at 6pm with the Capel Award presented to Grady Brown, standing in for Mel, following Coach Brannen’s talk. 
 
The Behringer Crawford Museum will be there with their Northern Kentucky Sports Historical Exhibit 
 
Admission is $10 and includes food, drink, and door prizes.

Mel Webster passed away suddenly in late February of this year, just days following hes being selected by the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame committee selected him to receive their prestigous Bil Capel Award. That award will be presented to his close friend Grady Brown at their annual fund-raiser at 5pm at the Garden of Park Hills.
