Our Mustangs wasted no time in making an early game statement, marching 54 yards in less than two minutes when Evan Orth went 14 yards for a touchdown. He then converted on the 2-Point conversion, giving our guys an 8-0 lead before the fans were comfortable in their seats. On the second play of their first offensive set, Austin Schadler snagged an Austin Miller pass which he took 21 yards for our second score, and when Tyler Smith split the uprights we were in front 15-0 with less than 3 minutes having run off of the clock. A second Evan Orth TD followed by a 29 yard pass completion to Alex Amin would result in our third and fourth touchdowns making it 28-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The Mustangs sent the game to a running clock with 7:40 remaining in the second quarter when Austin Schadler scored his second touchdown of the night, finishing off a huge Evan Orth gainer with a one-yard plunge, and when he found Braydon Ketron for the 2-Point conversion, we were on top 36-0, which was the halftime score. Neither team scored in the third quarter, but Fairview added 14 fourth quarter scores versus the Mustang JVs. The 36-14 win will keep the Mustangs at home next Friday night when we will host the Paintsville Tigers, who were identical 36-14 winners over Bracken County in Paintsville.

Notables: Junior Tyler Smith was his usual brilliant self, sending six kick-offs through the end zone, dooming the Eagles to begin their offensive series from their own 20 yard line each time. On their only other two offensive possessions they started from the 23 and 29 yard lines. In addition, Tyler was 2 of 2 on PAT attempts. Not a bad night’s work.

Austin Schadler intercepted an Austin Miller pass for a 21 yard Pick Six. He also threw a 29 yard touchdown pass to Alex Amin, and later scored on a one-yard plunge. He followed this touchdown with a 2 Point conversion pass to Bradon Ketron. For his efforts Austin Schadler was named a Bustangs.com Player of the game. Luke Schroeder was the Defensive Player of the Game for his efforts in the first half when the game was still a game.

Evan Orth, not to be outdone, scored our first touchdown and then converted the 2-Point tack-on. He scored again in the first quarter on a 26 yard run. Orth set up Schadler’s one-yard touchdown with a long gainer where he was brought down just short of the goal line.

Officially, Austin Schadler was 5 of 6 through the air, connecting for 60 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Evan Orth carried the ball 6 times for 67 yards and a touchdown, along with a two point conversion.

Alex Amin had only one reception but it was a 29 yard touchdown catch. Orth was responsible for 14 points going on the board, while Austin Schadler contributed 12. Nathan Schalk recovered a fumble.

We played without the services of Henry Goering, our center, and defensive lineman. Sophomore Jantzen Wittrock stepped into the center position and did a creditable job.

In other district games of interest Paris prevailed 33-21 over Betsy Layne, advancing to the second round where they will now play Raceland on the Music Highway next Friday night. Raceland downed Nicholas County 48-6, eliminating the Blue Jackets.
