Record Alumni Night Turnout Witness Mustangs 73-49 Win Over Pendleton County Plus Tim Cooper Photos

Wins on back-to-back nights improve our season record to 7-3 heading into the Christmas break. Mason Sepate remained white hot, nailing a trio of three-pointers in the first frame, leading his team to a 22-10 early game advantage, scoring eleven of those points.  Mason sat out the second period as five other Mustangs put 12 points on the board, giving us a 34-23 advantage at halftime. The Cats mounted a threat early in the third quarter, sneaking to as close as 36-32, before the Mustangs slammed the door and out scored the visitors  20-12 for the remainder of the quarter, and then 17-5 in the finale for the final result of 73-49.

Sepate finished the night with a game-high 20 points. He was joined in double-figure scoring by Brandon Bezold who nailed four 3-Pointers en-route to a 16 point night. Logan Woosley contributed 14, many of which came on rebound-stick back opportunities, and Anthony Kruse put up 10. Pendleton County received some prolific offensive efforts such as Hunter Jack’s five 3’s for 15, Austin Kirsch’s 13, and Alex Beyst’s 10. 

Our JVs defeated the Pendleton County Wildcats 48-35 in a game marred by incompetent officiating that called 41 fouls. We were led by Keegan Gulley with 14, and Parker Mulberry with 10.  Our Freshmen got things underway with a 40-30 victory. Beckett Kuntz and Anthony Schuck had big outings.  The Varsity Mustangs will return to action Wednesday, December 28th in the Dan Swartz Holiday Tournament at Bath County High School at 3:30pm. Our opponent will be the undefeated Harlan Green Dragons.  We will also play on the 29th and 30th, rounding out play in 2022.

A sizable number of Brossart Boys Basketball Alumni were on hand to witness the Pendleton County win and to gather afterwards for an impromptu reception hosted by Coach Ben Franzen.  I have been asked to remember Mike Martin ’67 and Earl Greis who played during our St. Mary days, and is our one and only All-Stater, who passed away over the summer.
