Moore Perfect Through
6 1/3rd, - Strikes Out 14 - Mustangs Win 9-0
NO RUNS – ONE HIT – NO WALKS – 14 STRIKE OUTS – ERROR FREE BASEBALL
In what one veteran Brossart coach called, “The most commanding performance by a high school pitcher” that he had ever seen, Evan Moore was totally dominant on the mound, retiring 19 consecutive Scott Eagles before Dylan Giffen, protecting the plate on a 3-2 count, punched a single to center to break up Moore’s perfect game. The next two batters went quietly into the night as the Mustangs win the 37th District showdown 9-0, while accumulating 13 hits. On the day, Evan made 90 pitches, 65 of them were strikes. Moore helped his own cause at the plate, going 1 for 2 with 3 walks taken, scoring once and knocking home a run.
Mustang batters took care of run production, putting up 9 Runs on 13 hits. Ten Mustangs had base hits with Robbie Verst, Brandon Bezold, and Keegan Gulley getting 2 each.
The win ups our season record to 11-12 and gives us a 2-0 mark in the district seeding race. Both we and Campbell County sport 2-0 records with the district top seed being decided this coming Monday when we host the Camels at St. Mary in a 5pm bout. In the interim, we will be off Tuesday and Wednesday, and return to action on Thursday as we host Walton-Verona in Alexandria at 5:30pm.
Had Moore pitched a perfect game I would have been somewhat upset that we were unable to broadcast that game as intended. The Scott AD informed me in the morning that all positions were occupied in the press box. BUT as I was entering the park he found me and informed me that the Scott broadcast team would not be doing the game, and I was welcome to use the left window position. This with 10 minutes prior to first pitch. Sometimes you have to simply shake your head.
A whopping 14 strikeouts issued Monday by Evan Moore. If you add 20 more of them that will total the number of strike outs in his last three complete game starts.
