The weekend took the Lady ‘Stangs to Shelbyville KY to play one game Friday and two games Saturday. After Friday dinner at Claudia Sanders Dinner House we made our way to the field to oppose the Nelson County Cardinals. Although holding the Cardinals to only four hits, the ‘Stangs were only able to muster four themselves, and only being able to push across one run. That run came in the last inning and was too little too late, and the ‘Stangs fell in a close one 3-1.
Saturday’s opponents were the Lady Rockets of Shelby County and the Lady Mustangs from North Oldham. The Lady ‘Stangs didn’t play nice in the first game and put up 11 hits and 13 runs in what would end up being a drubbing of the Host Lady Rockets 13-1. Morgan Kramer started in the circle and went one inning giving up no runs and whiffing 3. Maddie Kremer came in, in relief and pitched the final three stanzas of a run rule shortened game giving up only two hits, surrendering one run and fanning 4. All nine starters reached base, led by Brooke Shewmaker, Maddie Kremer and Morgan Kramer who had two hits each.
The second game of the day pitted the Mustangs against the Mustangs. Even before the game started I knew the Mustangs were going to win this one. Fortunately it was our offense that stayed hot and saw eight of nine starters collect hits and the team tally 13 hits. The usual suspect Brooke Shewmaker led the team with three hits. Savannah Seiter and Molly Kramer both contributed two hits each. Natalie Reis provided the fireworks when she led off the second inning by burning the center fielder and rounded the bases for her first HR of the year. Morgan Kramer toed the rubber and threw a complete game scattering 11 hits for 6 runs and striking out 4. The Lady ‘Stangs start the week Monday traveling to Meinken Field to play the Holmes Bulldogs in the second annual Mel Webster Memorial game. Game time 5 o’clock. It was another great weekend to be a Brossart Lady ‘Stang.
