Mustangs vs Holy Cross
Friday, October 6th

PLAYERS OF THE GAME: LUKE SCHROEDER (O) AND QUINTEN TISCHNER (D)

KEEGAN GULLEY RUNS FOR A PAIR OF TOUCHDOWNS, THROWS FOR ANOTHER IN BEST OUTING TO DATE.  ALEX AMIN, LUKE SCHROEDER AND LANDON GEYER ALL SCORED.  TYLER SMITH 5 OF 5 ON PATS.

Mustangs go one up in District Seeding competition with a 35-14 win over Holy Cross on Homecoming night in Alexandria.  Early on, this game had the feel that Brossart was the superior entity, as we fumbled away a threat on our first offensive series and held the Indians without a first-down in their first three tries.  Meanwhile on our second offensive set we got the job done as Keegan Gulley found Alex Amin across the middle for a 55 yard touchdown,  putting the Mustangs up 7-0 at the end of the period  when Tyler Smith spit the uprights for the PAT. Our bubble burst midway through the second stanza when Indians Quarterback,  Donovan Ambrocio, launched a 61 yard pass play to Andrew Bales and that quickly we we were tied at 7s when William Fisk matched Smith’s PAT efforts.  Not to worry though, as Keegan Gulley scampered 32 yards for a touchdown with 3:41 remaining in the half.  When the Indians’ late half effort failed to score, the Mustangs led 14-7 at intermission.

The Mustangs would push the lead to two possessions late in the third quarter when Luke Schroeder finished off a 44 yard drive with a 3 yard plunge into the end zone.  When Smith again knocked home the PAT, we led 21-7. The game was put out of reach early in the fourth period when Gulley would again take flight, this time for 17 yards for his second touchdown of the night, giving his team a 28-7 advantage with the successful PAT.  Holy Cross them ran five minutes off of the clock while going 63 yards for a touchdown.  This one a 9 yard run by Trevin Figgs.  We had one last shot remaining with 2:44 left to play when Landon Geyer exploded through the middle of the line, going 35 yards for our final touchdown and PAT.  On the night Tyler Smith was a perfect 5 of 5.

We will play the second of three district seeding contests next Friday night versus the Ludlow Panthers on the Red Carpet at Rigney Stadium in Ludlow.  A win would guarantee us at least one post-season playoff home game.
