Mustangs Punch Their Ticket To The 10th "A" Finals With a 73-68 Win Over Scrappy Augusta - Will Face Paris Thursday Night at 6pm

Our Mustangs put each dimension of our play on display Tuesday night in winning our 2025 10th Region “A” Semi-Finals bout with the defending champion Augusta Panthers 73-68 at Robertson County High School.  Early on we were sliced, diced, and fell behind 6-0 prompting a Ben Franzen time out, righting the ship and igniting a 12-6 run that would see us take the lead at 14-12.  The next four minutes we were brilliant, going on a 18-0 run, propelled by an 8 point second quarter output from Beckett Kuntz, to establish a 32-16 lead, doubling it up on the Panthers and giving the appearance of being enroute to a blowout victory, but not to be.  The final four minutes of the second quarter belonged to Augusta as they clawed back to cut the Brossart advantage to 33-24 at halftime.

Augusta held sway in the third quarter besting our guys 20-14, further narrowing the margin to 47-44, with eight minutes to play in the game.  Keeton Bach, the Panthers’ leading scorer came alive in the second half, after being held to a single 2-Point goal in the first half, exploded for 26 second half points, kept his team right in it, but our team was able to answer and maintain that four/five point lead to the finish line, to win and punch out ticket to the Thursday night Championship game versus Paris.  Hopefully, history will repeat itself and we will repeat our efforts of 2023 when we last cut down the nets as 10th Region “A” Champions.

Keeton Bach led all scorers with 28 points, and Noland Young added 15 for Augusta.  Meanwhile all five of the Mustangs put up double-figures, led by Dom Hadden with 17 points.  Beckett Kuntz added 15, Alex Combs 12, Ben Doyle 11, and Parker Mulberry 10.  For the contest we held a 19/29 to 7/12 advantage from the free-throw line.

In the early game, long tall Nicholas County, took on quick, athletic, Paris.  It was one of those games that Doctor Naismith would not have recognized as the game that he had invented.  A myriad of missed shots, turnovers, and low-percentage play described the mayhem.  With the game on the line, Paris made three critical errors, yet won anyway.  They will be our Thursday night opponents in the championship game.

Lady Stangs and Stangs Both Advance To Semis in Handy Fashion over Robertson County - Girls Win 65-14, and Boys Prevail 98-25

Every game doesn’t have to be a head knock, and on this night neither game was one.  Both teams had a lot in common – We scored a lot, and they didn’t.  Our girls put 8 players in the scoring column, while the boys had 12 put ink in the scorebook, with Sophomores Jackson Clark and Ryan Eldridge beginning their quest for the Brossart 1,000 Points Club with a varsity basket in the fourth quarter.  Alex Combs led all scorers with 18 points and a monster two-handed slam dunk.  Dom Hadden (16), Parker Mulberry (15), and Brady Boruske (14) each contributed double-figures.  Mulberry connected on three 3-Pointers, bringing his season total to 30.   The Mustangs will be right back on the bus Tuesday evening enroute to the 10th Region “A” Boys semi-finals where they will face Augusta at 7:30pm.

On the Girls side, Kylie Smith netted 19 points to lead all scorers, with Avery Wietholter came from off the bench to score 16.  The Lady Stangs will return to Mount Olivet on Wednesday night when they will take on Augusta at 7:30pm.
