Mustangs Win 10th Region "A" Tournament In Dominating Fashion, Outscore Saturday Opponents 23-1 To Claim First Title Since 2019

Our Mustangs rolled to dominating Semi-finals and Finals Wins on Saturday in Augusta, (Games moved to Augusta from Bracken County) finishing the job versus Paris 11-1 Saturday afternoon, after downing Augusta 12-0 earlier in the day. We plated 6 runs in the top of the 2nd, and followed back with 4 more in the 3rd, to set the stage for the run-rule finals win.  Only a home run by Paris Junior Dexter Leverett in their final at bat prevented the Mustangs from the “clean slate” in total for Saturday.   Senior Ben Volmer picked up right where Alex Noe left off, going the distance while allowing a single run on 3 hits, striking out 2, and issuing nary a walk.  An interesting stat shows all of our runs to be unearned runs, as Paris committed five costly errors, plus we did not have an extra-base hit in the event.

Ben Volmer helped his own cause by going 2 for 3 at the plate with 3 RBIs, while Aiden Schultz was 1 for 2 scoring twice and knocking home 3 more.  His sophomore counterpart Finley Schultz crossed the plate on three occasions.  Nolan Kramer, up from the JV team made himself at home, going 1 of 2, while scoring and knocking in a run.

With the win the Mustangs claim our sixteenth 10th Region “A” Championship, and our first since 2019.  We improve to 8-3 on the season.  I see that we are scheduled to play Beechwood this coming Wednesday in Fort Mitchell, which could be the 9th/10th Sectional Playoff for the trip to the “A” State Tournament to be conducted at Daviess County High School April 26 & April 27, 2025 where the 9th/10th Region Champions will take on the winner of Sayre/Danville. Champion.

Senior Left-hander, Alex Noe improves his season mark to 3-0

Mustangs Position Themselves To Win 10th "A" Title With A 12-0 Complete Game Shutout Over Augusta. Alex Noe Goes The Distance And Keegan Gulley Hits Two Home Runs On Back-to-Back Plate Appearances

The “Meat of the Order” had a big game in Augusta Saturday morning, as the Mustangs outslugged Augusta 12-0, behind the strong left arm of Alex Noe, who went the distance and earned the win.  Seniors Ben Volmer and Keegan Gulley, along with Junior Isaac Amin, the 3, 4 and 5 hitters in the lineup, combined to go 6 for 11 at the plate, scoring 7 runs among them.  Keegan Gulley added a pair of home runs on back-to-back plate appearances , raising his season total to 3, taking the lead in that category.  Isaac Amin also hit a round-tripper. Will Wyrick had a 2 RBI hit, and Aiden Schultz had a double.  On the bump, Noe went five complete innings, allowing 5 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 1 in the run-rule victory improving his season record to 3-0.

The margin of victory was a tad surprising, as Augusta, had knocked off Nicholas County 2-0 back on March 21st behind Keeton Bach, today’s Panther starter.  In other tournament action, Paris eliminated Calvary Christian 9-2 in the early game on Saturday.  Our two teams will compete for the 10th Region “A” Title at about 2:30pm.  Ben Volmer will take the mound versus the Greyhounds.

I’m happy for both Seniors Alex and Ben, who have overcome injuries to be able to compete at a high level this baseball season. Alex Noe promised me during last football season, while on crutches, that he would be good to go this spring. I’m happy that he has kept his word. Ben had knee surgery back early in the football season. As you see in the picture he still wears a good size knee support brace. Continued Success and Good Health to Both!!!
