Full 2025 Game & Broadcast Schedule
Brian and Joe got plenty of experience Friday night on their inaugural broadcast, as our game took about 3 hours and 10 minutes to complete. They did a great job and will continue to become more comfortable as the season progresses.

After being plagued by flags in a scoreless first quarter that saw Beckett Meersman recover a key fumble, and Nolan Kruse orchestrate a major sack of the Walton quarterback, neither team was able to put points on the scoreboard. Brossart drew first blood at the 7:50 mark of the second period when Landon Spaulding connected with Nick Cozzi for our first touchdown of the season, but the PAT was blocked. Walton answered when Braydon Donato stepped into a passing lane, intercepted a Spaulding pass, and went the distance, and the Mustangs found themselves trailing 7-6 with 4:36 remaining in the half when their PAT was good. Freshman Atticus Prost, who made a positive impression back at the Boone County scrimmage, recovered a Bearcat fumble, snuffing out a Walton drive. In our final series of the first half, the Mustangs marched the piggy 55 yards, and with only 18.2 seconds remaining in the period, Spaulding found Isaac Amin for a 12 yard score, giving the Stangs a 12-7 edge heading to the locker room at halftime when our 2-Point conversion attempt went for naught.
Our defense was stellar in the third quarter restricting the Bearcats to three-and-out on all three of their offensive possessions. Meanwhile Max Runge split the uprights from 29 yard s out, hitting the field goal, making the score 15-7 which would became the final when neither team added on in the final stanza. During that period both teams had key interceptions. Andrew Lynn picked off Spaulding early in the quarter, while Nick Cozzi applied the Coup de’ Grace picking off the Walton QB with 42 seconds remaining in the game, as the Bearcats were threatening, down at the Brossart 20 yard line. Brady Boruske was really good all night on defense, leading the team in tackles. Quinten Tischner made his presence felt on both sides of the ball. The Mustangs will take their 1-0 mark into next Friday night’s matchup with the defending Class 1A State Champion, Sayre Spartans. That game is slated for 7:30pm at the MAC.
While there were a myriad of candidates for Player of the Game Awards in this contest, we decided on Beckett Meersman to be the Defensive POG, and Junior Quarterback Landon Spaulding gets the Offensive POG nod, making his first high school varsity game start throwing two touchdown passes in leading our team to victory. Unfortunately, word was circulating following the game that Junior “Swiss Army Knife” (Joe Schuck’s Words) Tripp Wilson both arms in a fall out of bounds during the first quarter of the game.
BY THE NUMBERS:
In his high school varsity debut, Junior Landon Spaulding was 17 of 29 for 145 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was intercepted on two occasions.
Anthony Schuck carried the ball on 30 occasions for 91 yards, and Landon Spaulding had 5 carries for 27 yards.
Four Mustangs had four receptions – Isaac Amin, Brady Boruske, and Quinten Tischner for 33 and a touchdown, 31, and 30 yards respectively. Landon Ruth caught 3 passes for 17 yards, and Nick Cozzi hauled in 2 for 34 yards and a touchdown.
Nick Cozzi and Mason McKinzie both interccpted passes.
Max Runge missed on his only PAT attempt, but hit a Field Goal.
Beckett Meersman and Atticus Prost both recovered fumbles. Boruske and Goering both forced fumbles.
Brady Boruske led the team with 5 takles while Matthew Riegler had 4 bring-downs.
