St. Henry JV Team Prevails 6-0 Over Our JV Mustangs
Football is hard. We learned that back in 2007 when we jumped into varsity football kinda thinking that we were successful and competitive in everything else that we did, why should football be any different. It took us two years and twenty losses before we won our first game, and we had to travel deep into the mountains to defeat Betsy Layne.
I’m sure that a year ago when the Crusader JVs defeated our Mustangs, they thought they could check the Brossart box when the time came to hook up in a varsity bout. But, as my dinner partner Lee Corso would say “Not so fast, my friend.” The final score tonight was 55-3 in favor of the veteran varsity team who had just held the defending State Class 1A State Champs, and presently 6th ranked Sayre Spartans to 8 points. How did they think they were going to score on us? Well, truth is, they couldn’t. A lone 37 yard field goal by Senior Brady Aubuchon would be their sum total offensive output on this breezy Friday night in Erlanger.
UPDATED – Meanwhile Landon Spaulding threw to Landon Ruth and Quinten Tischner for two TDs, Tischner also added a 3 yard rushing tally. Nick Cozzi ran back two Cru punts for TDs, the first being 55 yards. Anthony Schuck was not be outdone, scampering for a pair of Brossart trophy runs. In the waning seconds of the running clock fourth quarter, Freshman quarterback, Charlie Rauch connected with Sophomore Ray Scharf for our final score of the night. a 58 yard touchown completion. Max Runge was a perfect 7 of 7 on the night, and did not get the chance to tack on to the final score of the night, since time had expired and it would have proved to be irrelevant.
For their efforts, Nick Cozzi was named the Defensive Player of the Game, while it didn’t take Anthony Schuck long to garner Offensive Player of the Game honors.
