The last time the Brossart Mustangs saw the Nicholas County Blue Jackets a year ago, Carson Schirmer had just intercepted a Blue Jackets pass in 3 OT in Carlisle, to award our guys the Class 1A – District 5 top seed.  That win pretty much assured that we would not return to Nicholas County High School, and that if we saw the Blue Jackets in the post season it would be at the MAC.  Unfortunately fate intervened and on a perfect fall day for a playoff football game, just 2 and 1/2 hours prior to kickoff, with the Nicholas County team en route, the game was cancelled as a Covid precaution, ending our season as the Jackets became District Champs by default.

The 2021 Nicholas County Blue Jackets are a bit of a mystery team, having only played four games, with two cancelled due to Covid.  Their opponents – Owen County (Win 31-7), Campbellsville (Loss 21-6), Fort Knox (Win 48-12), and Frankfort (Loss 49-20), are teams with which we are not familiar.  What we are familiar with is their style of play, which pretty much mirrors what our Mustangs have done thus far this season.  The glaring difference is that our defense has allowed but 22 points in six matches, while the Jackets have been victimized for 89 in four outings..

What we have learned loud and clear is that there is no substitute for experience.  Both Brossart and Nicholas County sport veteran quarterbacks.  Junior Tate Letcher is in his second year at the helm of the Blue Jackets, while Jacob Leicht is in his third year under center for the Mustangs.

We are similar in the pass/run department.  The Mustangs have thrown (14/31) for 4 touchdowns, while Letcher has only connected for a single touchdown (25/43).   Both teams rely on their run games to put points on the board.  Brossart has taken the overland route to score 13 touchdowns, while the Jackets have run for 10.

The Brossart – Nicholas County rivalry, and it has become a rivalry, dates back to 2015 with both teams owning three victories apiece in the regular season.  In 2019 Nicholas County edged us 18-13 in a District 5 playoff game in Carlisle..

Tonight we will honor our 11 seniors – Alex and Brad Reis, Adam Bezold, Daniel Williamson, Andrew Schwartz, David Govan, Jacob Leicht, Thomas Sayers, Kaleb Lukes, Jed Martin and Joseph Bedford.

In honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we will recognize Breast Cancer survivors at halftime.

Our Mustangs are seeking a seventh consecutive victory to start a season, which would match the school-record 7-0 start of our 2015 Mustangs.  Stretching over the games actually played in 2020-2021 we presently own a seven game string, and are winners of 11 of our last 12 games.

Game time is 7:30pm with the live broadcast and NFHS Voice-Over beginning at 7:10pm.
