With a rare Thursday night game for the Lady ‘Stangs, both the boys and girls teams were in action. The girls traveled to Ft. Thomas to take on the Highlands Bluebirds, but fell short 2-3. We’re still waiting on final stats, but the word on the street is that Senior Lydia Haubner scored one of our goals on a PK. We’ll update this story when more information is available.
The Mustangs hosted the Indians of Montgomery County at the MAC with a JV and Varsity matchup. The JVs found themselves down 0-1 in the first half and played most of the second half a man down after a red card was issued. They rallied behind 2 identical corner kicks from Freshman Luke Alwell, both finding the head of Freshman Andrew Lusby. Sophomore Tyler Braun drew the attention of the goalie on the front post, but Lusby crashed the back post with both of his headers. The Mustangs would end the game with a 2-1 win.
In the Varsity game, the Mustangs found themselves down 0-1 after a “MoCo” pass into the box and a header with 18:07 left in the first half. Junior Lucas Steffen was a busy man during the first half, stopping multiple shots by the Indians.
Just as the first half was drawing to an end, Sophomore defender Carter Goodman sent a pass up to the midfield, finding Junior Ivan Rodero Lopez, who pushed the ball through the defense and into the back of the net with just 00:03 left on the Harold C. Schott Foundation scoreboard. Halftime score: 1-1.
Although neither team scored in the second half, many of the younger Mustangs earned valuable playing time, giving upper classmen a chance to rest and avoid injury for the upcoming post season. This younger crew held their own, preventing the Indians from scoring and made several nice runs of their own.
The final regular season home game is slated for Saturday vs. the 12-3-1 Dixie Colonels. Both teams are hitting their stride as the Colonels enter the match winning 9 of their last 11 games, and the Mustangs 10 of their last 12. JV will kick things off at 6pm, followed by Varsity at 7:30.
THIS WILL BE THE LAST SOCCER GAME FOR GOFAN PASSES, as they are only valid for the regular season and not able to be accepted during the post season. At the gate, we will continue to use GoFan and will also accept credit cards. Again, no cash will be accepted at the gate.
District games are set to be played @the MAC on Tuesday, Oct. 5th, with CCHS vs. Scott at 5:00pm and BBHS vs Calvary at 7:30pm. The winners of those games will play in the finals of the 37th District @the MAC at 7:30pm.
