Baseball and Softball seasons got underway Wednesday evening at the MAC, Baseball at the Verst Family Baseball Venue and Softball at the Baynum Family “Field of Dreams.” Both Brossart Teams dominated their competition, the baseballers 13-0 over Holy Cross, and the Fast-Pitch Softballers 15-0 over Boone County.
On the baseball diamond, Ben Doyle was the Mustangs starting pitcher. Sitting down the Indians in order in the first inning, with the home team exploding for 9 runs in the home half of the inning. For the record, Luke Neltner was the first-ever Brossart base-runner, reaching safely on an error by the first-baseman. Our first official hit was recorded by Ben Doyle who singled. Neltner scored our first official run, with 8 more to follow in the inning before we were finally retired after 13 Mustangs had come to the plate and the game pretty much decided at 9-0. The game would continue on for 3 1/2 more innings with the Tribe failing to score, and only five of them reaching base (3 hits, one walk, and two on through errors). Doyle went 3 complete innings allowing no runs, no hits, walked one and struck out one Indian. Karter Morgan came on in relief, went two innings giving up no runs on three hits with no walks nor strike outs.
At the plate, Neltner was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and 2 RBIs. Doyle was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and a ribbi. Isaac Amin was 2 for 3, a run sored and a pair of RBIs, scoring a run. Owen Record was 2 for 2 scoring two runs knocking in one. Kasey Moeller was 1 for 2 while scoring a run and knocking one in. These stats have been updated to reflect the official numbers on Riherds.
