Senior James Ampfer scores first Varsity goal in his last regular season game.
With the end of the regular season coming to an end on Saturday night, the Mustangs hosted the Dixie Heights Colonels for a triple header. Both the Freshman and JV teams finished their seasons with a hard-fought loss, but should be very proud of how they represented Bishop Brossart this season. The coaching staff and fans look forward to seeing them for years come.
In the Varsity matchup, neither team was budging as the rain fell throughout the night. Junior Logan Rauen was on point, stopping multiple shots from all angles and delivering 50+ yard punts to the midfield. The halftime score was a 0-0 tie.
Six minutes into the second half, Sophomore Tyler Smith sent a corner kick into the box and found the head of Senior defender James “Meatball” Ampfer, who scored his very first Varsity goal in the last regular season game of his Bishop Brossart soccer career.
Although the Mustangs prevented multiple shot attempts throughout the game, Junior Reed Brixey fired a shot from 15 yards out with 22 minutes left to play and slipped one by the Mustang defense and keeper, tying the game at 1-1. That would also be the final score.
