Parity isn’t the NoKyJuniorHigh Football League’s strong suit.  Our Brossart Junior High Colts have defeated opponents 32-12, 26-0, 40-0 and 28-0.  We have also lost to Bracken County 54-12 and last night, Newport, 51-7.  This is somewhat understandable as there are four divisions – Large School, Medium School, Small School, and 7th Grade.  We play in the Small School division and some of the teams we play have two or more teams competing in those four divisions.  Some schools have one team, such as ourselves, Bracken County and Newport.

In the Wednesday night gave versus Newport the feeling was that we were outmanned, outsized, and out-athleted, as the Wildcats violated us for eight touchdowns against our defense, which hadn’t allowed a point since the Bracken County game back in the second week of the season.

Things got off to a rocky start early, when, on our first offensive play, we fumbled the ball away.  Newport scored on their first play, BUT there was a flag on the play, which called it back and marched the Cats back an additional five yards  This didn’t seem to bother them, as Kendell Buck-Barber went 29 yards for the subsequent score on the next play, setting the tone.  An intercepted Colts pass resulted in an 11 yard touchdown run to make it 12-0 with only 2 minutes and 28 seconds elapsed in the game.  The Cats scored two more times in the quarter, once by Amontae Lowe, his second touchdown of the night, and a 16 yard trophy run.  Anthony Herindon scored on a takaway and carried it 39 yards followed by a one-point conversion by Lowe and the first quarter ended with the Colts trailing 25-0.

Newport added two more touchdowns, both by Kendell Buck-Barber, a 21 yard run and a 15 yard run, giving the Cats a 38-0 lead and sending the second half to a running clock.  Meanwhile, our Colts were still in search of our first, first-down.

Neither team put points on the scoreboard in the third quarter, but we did manage a first-down.  A newcomer, Caveonta Roper scored two Newport fourth quarter touchdowns.  Our lone major bright spot of the evening came with 3:34 remaining n the game, when Brossart big-man, Luke Kohls ran back a Newport kick-off approximately 65 yards to avoid the shutout, and Kohls plowed into the end zone for the extra point.- Final score – Newport 51-7.

Our Colts have one regular season game remaining, as we travel to Rigney Stadium in Ludlow next week to take on the 0-3 Panthers, who were victimized by Newport 42-0.
