DeSales Inhospitable Hosts In defeating our Mustangs 35-7

Mustangs Find Tough Sledding Vs Div 3 DeSales on the Road In Louisvlile
DeSales 36, Brossart 7
Friday September 26th

The Mustangs won the toss and deferred to the second half.  The DeSales Colts’ first possession was a harbinger of things to come, as they chewed up time and yardage marching for four minutes, culminating with a 8 yard Cameron Bischoff pass to John Bowling, giving the home team a 7-0 lead when “Mr. Perfect,” John Dietz, hit his 19th consecutive PAT this season.  He would extend that streak to 23 by game’s end.

We managed a first down on our first set of downs, but were forced to punt, and DeSales duplicated their previous effort, this time finished off by a 20 yards quarterback keeper by Cameron Bischoff, and we were down 14-0 in the first quarter.  The Colts tacked on in the second quarter with a 15 yard back-to-back trophy run by Bischoff.  Nick Cozzi picked off Bischoff prior to the half, but we could not sustain the drive, yielding possession to the Colts who applied the coup de grâce with only 8 second remaining in the half when Bischoff found Kinston Merritt making it 28 -0 at intermission.

The Colts extended their lead to 35-0 with 5:37 remaining in the third quarter.  Our Mustangs had a few bright spots in the 4th period – a 30 yard pass completion to Mason McKenzie gave the Mustangs faithful something to cheer about, and with time expiring Landon Spaulding found Freshman Austin Johnson for our only score on the evening, and when Max Runge split the uprights the final score was 35-7.

Nolan Kruze was named the Defensive Player of the Game, while Quarterback Landon Spaulding was named the Offensive Player of the Game.
