This photo of the scoreboard at halftime of our first-ever football game played at the MAC will bring back some tough memories to those of us in attendance that night, who saw Holy Cross score 22 unanswered points in the second half to spoil our christening party and hand us a 22-19 loss.

The Mustangs return to the MAC for a four game homestand this Friday night, as we celebrate Homecoming, and anticipate a sizable crowd to be on hand  to welcome the Holy Cross Indians for the first time since Opening Night  of the MAC back on September 27th, 2019.

Our Mustangs sport a 3-0 record with impressive wins over Dayton, who have won their last two encouters (Pendleton County and Frankfort Western Hills), Newport who did not play last week due to a Covid cancellation, and Bellevue, who we simly out-manned.

As I learned from Terry Boehmker in his Northern Kentucky Football Preview this morning in the Northern Kentucky Tribune, our game features the two leading touchdown scorers in Northern Kentucky – “Holy Cross junior Javier Ward leads the area with 42 points scored on offense, defense and special teams. Brossart senior quarterback Jacob Leicht is next in line with 32 points coming on rushing plays.”

We are riddled with injury and Covid related absences, and have been plugging holes over the past two weeks.  In the old days at  River Downs, they ran a trainers’ race which the conditions read, “Run what ya brung.”  Coach Paul Wiggins can relate and will be coming in to the Holy Cross game with lots of blanks on our 38 man roster.  But, we suspect, so will Holy Cross.  It is the nature of the 2020 and 2021 football season.

The Indians are coming off of a 2-6 season, with one of those losses coming at the hands of our Mustangs 35-7.  Thus far this season they have a win over Bellevue 43-6, and show a pair of losses to Walton-Verona and Scott, two legitimate football teams.

Jacob Leicht is expected to be back under center Friday night.

Game time is 7pm with the live broadcast airing at 6:40pm.  The game is open to the public, and tickets can be purchased via GoFan or Credit Card payment at the gate.  Alternative parking will be available in the Alexandria United Methodist Church lot just off of Highway #10 at Breckieridge Drive.

NOTE:  The Brossart at Pendleton County game originally scheduled for Friday, October 29th has been moved to Friday, October 22nd at Sharp Middle School.
