Insight/Inky/Remke Athlete Student Achiever
Jacob Rieger was the consumate student-athlete. Four years honors student, four year member of the National Honors Society, and four-year varsity contributor to the Brossart Mustangs basketball program, who received an academic/athletic scholarship to Hanover College, following his high school playing days.
Jake led the Mustangs in just about every category his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. For his efforts he was recognized as All-Region his junior and senior seasons, and All-Region Honorable Mention his sophomore year. He was also NKCA Division II – All-Conference his junior and senior seasons.
Jake is the first and only Brossart Mustang to be named the KABC 10th Region Player of the Year, and the only Mustang to have ever received a tryout for the Kentucky All-Star team.
Mike Code coached Jake all four years of his high school career, and calls him “one of the most versatile big men I have ever coached.” In addition to putting big numbers on the scoreboard, Rieger also excelled on the defensive side of the ball, and took pride in being a complete defensive player.
He was heavily recruited by NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA colleges. He chose Hanover College, where he started in his first three college games, and ended up starting 16 games his freshman season. Jacob played four years at Hanover and was the team’s lone senior in his final year – 2014.
The Rieger tradition continued to live on at Brossart High School, where Erik, Jake’s younger brother, became a freshman in 2010-11 and played varsity basketball on three 20 Game Winners, graduating in 2014.
