Our Mustangs will resume play on Wednesday, following a week-long weather induced furlough, sporting a 6-2 season record. Taking a look at our team leaders to this point we find our team hitting a torrid .425. Nate Geiman and Luke Neltner are averaging .467 and .438 respectively. Carter Boruske is batting .429 on a shorter at bats sample, Aiden Schultz is our hits leader with 10, including a pair of doubles. Isaac Amin leads the team in the doubles category with 5. Ben Doyle and Luke Neltner each have a triple, and Keegan Gulley and Ben Volmer have homered. Amin has drawn a team-high 10 walks, Aiden Schultz and Amin lead the team in runs scored – 11, and Ben Doyle and Keegan Gulley lead the Runs Batted In department with 8 apiece. Schultz and Neltner are both 4 for 4 on Bases Stolen attempts. I think that the amount of names mentioned above speaks well for our total team effort. If the same player or players were dominant in all categories, that might not bode well for our team depth.
We are solid on the Pitcher’s Mound as well. Sophomore Luke Neltner sports an unblemished 3-0 record in 12 2/3rds innings worked. He has surrendered 6 runs (4 ER) and 6 hits with an incredible Walks-Strike Out ratio of 1-13. His ERA is 2.21. Senior Alex Noe is 2-0 on the season in 13.2innings of work. He has allowed 7 runs (4 ER), 8 Hits, and he too has an amazing Walk-Strike Out ratio of 3-17 with an ERA of 2.05. Our third pitcher of record is Ben Volmer who has a 1-1 record. He has recorded 10 1/3inings on the hill, allowing 7 runs (3 ER) ,walking 3 and whiffing 9. He has also collected a Save and sports an ERA of 2.03. Seven other Mustangs have also seen mound duty. As a team we posses an enviable 2.79 ERA.
We will resume play on Wednesday, visiting the City of Beautiful Homes for an NKAC DivII conference encounter with the 5-4 Highlands Bluebirds.
