After a week off, IT’S GAME DAY!!! Mustangs Host Paris on Dry Turf at the MAC

Dave Schabell November 3, 2021 12:51 pm

In a year of firsts, we begin our quest for our first-ever district championship, taking on Paris at home Friday night with our track shoes on

Cold but clear conditions are expected in Alexandria on Friday night as we embark on what we hope will be a long and successful post-season.  The tournament brackets are published on a different thread.

Jacob Leicht needs one rushing touchdown to tie Trevor Schadler for most rushing TDs in a season, and Jed Martin needs 76 yards rushing to catch Jacob Elbert for most rushing yards in a season.

Cheerleaders Set Tone At Thursday Night Bonfire Pep Rally

Our Mustangs escaped Blanton Collier Stadium three weeks back with a hard-earned 15-6 win, played in a quagmire which we feel benefitted the Hounds by limiting our ability to break away for long gainers – our trademark up to that point.

We will have no excuses Friday night when we return to the friendly confines of the MAC, on a dry turf field.  I have every confidence that we will once again be able to do some open field running and leave the rest up to our defense, in taking our first step towards that first-ever district championship.

Tom Jordan did a great job of emceeing the pep rally.  I was given the chance to say a few words, and gave a bit of a history lesson on our series of firsts over the years, and a look at what our future might hold for us, hitting the high spots – forming a JV football team, winning our first varsity game two years and a game later, qualifying for the playoffs for the first time, surviving 2A, winning seven in a row in 2015, and now going undefeated here in 2021, with a chance to win our first district championship, as we continue to accomplish program firsts.

In rethinking what I had to say, I would have liked to have mentioned that the difference in previous times where we struggled to get wins, and now when we ran the table, is that in our earlier history we had boys who played football, but the group representing this Mustangs football team are football players.

Another thought that would have been well received was a comment that Bill Klopp made on an early Bellevue game broadcast when the Tigers were pounding us and having fun doing it.  Bill said, “These coaches all know that it is only a matter of time until Brossart Football becomes the same championship caliber program as the rest of our athletic teams.  Gentlemen, We Have Arrived!!!.
