Our Mustangs made an early game statement, scoring twice to take a 13-0 lead. The first, a one yard Austin Schadler plunge, and the second a 32 yard pass play from Schadler to Nate Schack. Tyler Smith connected on two field goals in the second period, one from 25 and the other from 30 yards out, giving the home team a 19-0 advantage at halftime. We put up three scores in the third period to send the game to a running clock. Evan Orth went 80 yards for the first of the trio, Eli Twehues scored from 3 yards out of the Jumbo Package, and Derek Martin, the 29th of Clarence Martin’s grandkids, scored from 3 yards out, making the score 40-0, when Tyler Smith nailed all three PATs. On the night, Smith was 4 of 5 on PATs and I gave him the Black Cat on the one he missed, and was 3 of 3 in the Field Goal department, one each from 25, 30 and 48 yards out. The 48 yarder was a new school record.
NOTE: That on the broadcast I called Tyler’s 48 yarder as a 43 yarder. I counted three yards beyond what I thought was the 30 yard line, but turned out to be the 35 yard line. So, In order to get a clean broadcast of a school record Field Goal, Ty is going to have to kick a 49 yarder, well within his range, for me.
Pendleton County got on the board early in the fourth period when Chance Pollard scrambled for 17 yards for the score, and Tyler Redden added the two-point conversion. It was shortly thereafter when Tyler Smith connected from 48 yards out for a school record Longest Field Goal. The Wildcats tacked on another Chance Pollard score at the horn, for the final score of 43-14.
On the night Schadler was 12 of 19 through the air for 165 yards and 1 touchdown. Evan Orth only carried the ball two times, but one was for an 80 yard touchdown. Derek Martin had three carries for 12 yards which included one touchdown. Sam Willike was on the receiving end of three Schadler passes for 75 yards and Nate Schack gathered in 6 receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown.
We conclude the regular season with a record of 8-2 and will take on Fairview next Friday Night in the Opening Round of the KHSAA Class 1A 2022 UK HealthCare Sports Medicine State Football Finals. That game will be played at the MAC at 7:30pm.
