Tyler Smith scores his 8th goal of the season, assisted by Ivan Lopez.
On Saturday, the team headed an hour south to Paris, KY to take on our 10th Region rival, Calvary Christian. Historically, the matchup has always been physical and this game was no different.
The Mustangs pressured the Cougars most of the game, taking multiple shots on goal…but the score remained 0-0 at half.
In the second half, with 31:03 left in the game, Junior Ivan Lopez worked his way toward the Cougar goalie and sent a beautiful cross into the box, where Sophomore Tyler Smith was in perfect position to score his 8th goal of the season. The team continued to battle for the remaining 31 minutes, as the expected rain held off.
The Lopez-to-Smith goal proved to be the game winner, paving the way to compete in the 10th Region Finals against Paris next Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 1:30pm and will be played at the Paris Athletic Complex in Paris, KY. Unfortunately, audio and video feeds are not available for this game.
A win on Saturday will give the Mustangs the 10th Region title and a matchup with the Beechwood Tigers, who won their region earlier in the week. The two teams played in our first official game of the season on August 10th, with the Mustangs coming out on top, 3-0.
