JVs Improve to 4-2 With 53-28 Win Behind 11 Points Each From Keegan Gulley and Ben Volmer.
Two weeks ago at home, we ran up and down the floor, hit shots, played outstanding defense, and beat Newport in a dog fight. This Friday night, two weeks later, the script flipped and we couldn’t have shot the ball much worst, hitting on 28% from 2 point range, and 23% from beyond the arc. We came into the game with three players averaging double-figures, and a fourth right there at 9.5pg. On this night, where eleven Mustangs did score, our double-figure scorers combined for 13 points. We were led by Sam WIllike, who missed the Beechwood game, with 8 points. The “Thorobreds” (not a typo) out-raced us 39-17 to halftime, and the two teams played relatively even-up in the second half 28-27 favoring the Breds. Congrats to Mustang Sophomore Landon Geyer, who joined the pursuit of the 1,000 Points Club by scoring his first varsity points on the night, nailing a 3-pointer. Harrison County will be right back in action Saturday in the 9th/10th Region Challenge Series at 6pm at Bracken County High School where they will play Boone County. Our Mustangs will be heavily favored to return to the win column Monday night when the roster decimated Calvary Christian Cougars come to call.
Our JVs posted their third win of the season laying over Harrison County 53-28 in the prelim game. We were led by Keegan Gulley and Ben Volmer with 11 each. On a personal note I thought that Keegan Gulley had a coming out game of sorts, leading the JVs and giving Coach Ben Franzen some really good minutes in the varsity game, scoring 7 varsity points and taking a charge. It was more how he did it than what he did. He played strong and with confidence. The Euro-Drive up main street in the JV game, said, “I’m Back!!!”
