The 2021-22 Mustangs embarked on the Henry Couty Holiday Tournament trip on Tuesday, defeating Trimble County in the tournament lidlifter 75-41 behind a combined 27 points from big men David Govan (16) and Luke Schumacher (11). Sophomore Ryan Keller scored his first varsity points in the contest.
The Mustangs will be back in action against Spencer County in the 4:30pm game on Wednesday.
Following the Trimble County game the team went to dinner and spent some quality “out on the town: time together.
We fell behind early to Spencer County who was red hot from beyond the arc, as we trailed 33-17 at the half. The Bears stayed hot in the second half, finished their days ork with 14 3-Point goals to our four. Brandon Bezold led the Mustangs with 12 points. The loss sent us on a date with Hart County, losers to Harrison County in the other semi-finals event.
In one of our more exciting games of the season, the two teams battled to a 29-28 Hart County advantage, but it was the Raiders who would surge to the front 46-38 after three quaters. Much like the Beechwood game our Mustangs showed some character, rallying from 8 down while on a 25-6 run to win the game 63-52 and secure third place in the 2021 Henry County Holiday Tournament. We were led in the scoring column by our resident Big Dawg, David Govan, who nailed 15 field-goals to match his career high 30 points on the night. Brandon Bezold turned in a career effort nailing 4 2-pointers en-route to a 14 point night.
Over the three-day event Govan put up 54 points, Bezold was double-figures each day tallying 36 for the tourney, Mason Sepate netted 24, and Luke Schumacher 17. The Mustang conclude 2021 with a 6-8 record and will tip-off 2022 Monday night at home when we welcome the Holmes Bulldogs, as we head towards the 10th Region All “A” Classic.
