Mustangs Seek 16th 10th Region “A” Title Since Turn of the Century – Lady ‘Stangs Hope to Go Back-to-Back-to Back. It All Starts Saturday

The 10th Region “A” and the quest for a trip to the “A” State Tournament at EKU in Richmond begins Saturday, January 8th at Bracken County H.S.  Our Boys Team has made the trip on 15 occasions since 2000, while the Lady Stangs seek to go Back-To-Back-To-Back and win their 13th Overall 10th Region “A” Tournament.

Winning the 10th Region “A” Tournament is a major goal of our program on an annual basis, and over the years we have had an amazing amount of success.  Since 2001 our boys have won fifteen10th Region “A” Championships, including 11 of 12 from 2003 through 2014.  In recent years we have been 10th “A” Champs in 2016, 2019, and 2020.  Last year we were the runners-up behind Robertson County.

Our Girls are All “A” State Champions in 1999 and Runners-up in 2000.  Our Boys team won the All “A” State Championship in 2007 and were Runners-up in 2004.

Our Lady Stangs have won twelve 10th Region “A” Championships, and actually had won five of them before the boys won their first one.  Our girls have won the last three 10th Region “A” Titles.

This year’s competition gets underway for both the Boys and Girls this Saturday with the boys taking on Nicholas County at 2pm and the Girls following up at 3:30pm.  Both the boys and girls tournament are wide open affairs.  The bottom bracket of the boys bracket is loaded – ourselves, Augusta and Bracken County all occupy the lower bracket.  The winner of the Calvary-Robertson County game is expected to be in the finals.  The popular opinion is that the survivor of the Bracken County/Augusta game will be favored to emerge from the lower bracket and win the tournament.  We’ve been in this position in the past, and no Brossart team should be dismissed in this tournament.  Our first challenge will be Nicholas County.  The Blue Jackets lost their first six games of the season, but have been victorious in five of their last seven outings.  Our strength of schedule seems to exceed that of the Jackets.  Bracken County comes into the tournament with a sterling 10-5 record.  The Bears own a 17 point win over Augusta in the regular season, and an eye-opening two point win over Campbell County earlier this week.

On the girls’ side perhaps our ladies might be considered favorites, however, Paris  and/or St. Patrick are major contenders.  The Lady Hounds are having a banner season at 7-4 with a few quality wins.  St. Patrick has the best record in the tournament at 11-3, but have sustained an unflattering recent loss to Augusta, which leaves them a bit suspect..  Our girls are 7-4 against what appears to be the toughest competition played to date.

10th Region “A” time is always exciting and breaks up our regular season as we then point toward the All “A” State Tournament or the 37th District Tournament.

We will broadcast all of the games (Audio) either Brossart teams play in this tournament.  Air time is 15/20 minutes prior to tip-off.

Let the games begin!!!
