Mustangs get a trip over the Ben Flora Gym hardwood, the site of next weeks three-day Mike Swauger Holiday Classic.
My apologies to my broadcast partner Kevin Steffen for this game. By setting up my laptop on the right hand side of the table, I was utilizing the right side headsets, and Kevin was using the left side headsets. Me, being used to regulating my sound, because I normally occupy that spot, was increasing my volume, thinking it was his, and turning down what I thought was mine, but was actually his, which explains the imbalance in volume.
Goes to show that just like losing games and horse races, there are also a thousand ways to screw up a perfectly good broadcast. This one was on me.

Our JVs came out firing, quickly establishing a 29-2 first quarter lead. I guess that some other Brossart JV team might have netted 29 points in a quarter, but I can’t remember when.
Freshman Domyniq Hadden led the attack with 8 points as five players contributed to those 29 points. The second quarter was much more contentious as we nosed the Tigers 11-10 to take a 40-12 lead to the locker room at halftime. Coach Nate Mutsch liberally rotated all nine players outside of the first period, as we rolled to the 63-25 running clock win. The JVs get back on the sunny side of .500 with 4 wins and 3 losses.
Hadden led all scorers with 14 points and Junior Lucas Steffen had a big game, scoring 13 that included a pair of 3-pointers. Evan Orth and Luke Piscitello, our resident wrecking crew, notched 7 points apiece.
We now await the Crosstown Classic on Saturday when our Freshmen tip off the event at 4pm, the JV game goes at 5:30pm, and the feature event at 7pm.
Our Brossart Mustangs, fresh off a pressure-packed battle with the Beechwood Tigers, found the much more favorable conditions in Belleuve to our liking, running out to a quick 13-1 early game lead, which would evolve into a 28-12 first quarter advantage, that saw Mason Sepate get the lid off, hitting three, 3-Point Goals adding up to a total of 15 first quarter tallies. Anthony Kruse also set the tone, by nailing a pair of 3-pointers while accumulating 8 points in the quarter. We would add another 20 points in the second quarter as Kruse added his third “3” and Brandon Bezold contributed a long-range bomb as we extended the lead to 48-21 at halftime.
Coach Scott Code interspersed several of our JV players into the lineup, which saw seven different Mustangs put ink in the book as we netted another 20 points of production in the third quarter. Down the stretch, the JVs finished it out. Sophomore Ryan Williamson scored varsity points for the second time this season, and his classmate Luke Schroeder scored his first ever varsity points with a field-goal. All told, eleven Mustangs would score in the varsity game. All nine of the JVs who suited up in the prelim game scored in the prelim event.
Mason Septate led all scorers with 22 points including four 3’s Anthony Kruse finished the game with 13 and the 3-pointer hat trick. Luke Schumacher, our lone big man, added 9 and Logan Woosley put in 8, as the Mustangs improve to 3-4 on the season.
