When Junior Parker Mulberry went six of six from the charity stripe Tuesday night vs Boone County, he improved his season free-throw connection average to 88.2% on 45 of 51 shooting. These numbers are on pace to set a school record (83.5%), and would rank third in the state at the present time with only Luke Arlinghaus (93.1%) from Holy Cross, and Trent Noah from Harlan (90.6%) superior to Parker’s numbers. However, like that age old question about if a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound (?), no one is hearing about Parker’s achievement, because by our own, and KHSAA Standards, Parker is 15 attempts short of qualifying for such recognition, which requires 3 shots per game played, which in Parker’s case, would be 66.
With a minimum of seven games remaining in this season, Parker will need to make his way to the free-throw line a minimum of 36 times – Not impossible. We will stay tuned.
An interesting side note is that sophomore Beckett Kuntz is also right up there with his free-throw shooting percentages, which read – 15 of 17, which is also 88.2% from the line.
