Blue-Chippers Rachel Shewmaker and Maggie Simons Do Battle in 10th Region "A" Classic Friday Night at Nicholas Co High School

Fresh off of a 27 point victory over Nicholas County in the Raceland Holiday Tournament, our Lady ‘Stangs were expected to advance past the Lady Jackets in the quarterfinals of the 10th Region “A” Classic on Friday night, but that was then and this was now.  The home team outplayed our ladies 17-3 in the third quarter, overcoming a four point halftime deficit, and prevailed 53-40, derailing our hopes for a repeat 10th Region “A” Championship in 2024.  Rachel Shewmaker led our team with 10 points and was named to the All-Tournament Team, but was no match for the 27 tallies notched by Super-Freshman, Maggie Simons and 14 more from Tessa Humphries.  Zoey Woosley was tabbed All-Academic.

On the Boys side, the Bluejackets were on a mission to avenge the overtime loss to our Mustangs suffered a year ago in the 10th Region “A”, and sprung from the gate, opening a 19-7 first quarter lead and never looked back in advancing to the Monday night semi-finals, 57-43.  Beyond the first period the Jackets could manage only a 38-36 advantage, but the damage had been done.  Wyatt Clark led all scorers with 18 points, complimented by 14 from Braxton Martin, and Lincoln Morris with 10.  We countered with Ben Doyle’s 15, and Parker Mulberry’s 12, that included a trio of 3-pointers.  For his efforts, Ben Doyle was named to the All-Tournament Team, and Parker Mulberry was tabbed All-Academic.

We have played that last two games without the services of Cam Mandel, who is in Washington, D.C. for the funeral of his grandfather, Colonel Larry Ruggley, who is being buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

This will be the  first time since 2015 that a Brossart team will not be represented in the All “A” State Tournament.

The 10th Region All “A” Continues Saturday with an entire slate of games.  The Robertson County Girls and Boys will take on St. Patrick beginning at 11am and 12:45pm. Bracken County Boys face Calvary Christian at 2:30pm with the Augusta girls and boys taking on Paris at 4:15pm and 6pm.
