David Govan’s 22 Point Outing Overshadowed By Beechwood Junior Cameron Boyd, who put up 37 for the Tigers in a Winning Effort.

Varsity Game Broadcast Replay
The JV game closely resembled what was to transpire in the feature game. Beechwood flexed a little offensive muscle early on, opening up a 14-8 lead. The teams battled evenly in the second period as the Tigers led 21-16 at the halftime break. Like their big brother Mustangs would do later on in the evening, six different Mustangs would go on a 17-6 run, as our Mustangs took the 33-27 lead with six minutes remaining in the game. Following the script, Beechwood owned the final frame as they recovered to outscore our guys 14-3 and post the 41-36 JV game win.
Luke Piscitello led the JVs for the second straight outing with 8 points. Even Orth and Ryan Williamson contributed 7 points each.
The JV team will be back in action Wednesday night at 6pm at Bellevue.
The outlook was not bright for our guys at home Monday night early on, as we fell behind 12-8 to the visiting Beechwood Tigers after a quarter, and then fell as far behind as 28-13 late in the second quarter while demonstrating many of the traits that have led to some recent setbacks. But then a funny thing happened on the way to halftime as the Mustangs finished out the half strong, outscoring the Tigers 10-2, narrowing the margin to 7 at the half.
Momentum carried over to the third quarter where the Tigers had no answer for David Govan, who scored 11 points in that stanza, and received major contributions from four teammates, who added 15 points as our guys played their best period of the season, netting 26 points to blow past the Tigers, taking a 49-43 lead after three quarters.
Meanwhile Beechwood Junior Cameron Boyd was becoming the difference in the game. He was responsible for 14 of his team’s 30 points at the half, and then scored all of his team’s 13 points in the third quarter, including his sixth 3-point goal of the game, as his team fell behind 49-43. He would finish the night with 37 points on 15 of 23 shooting from the field, overshadowing a 22 point by our resident big dawg, David Govan.
Much as our girls wore down late in their efforts to overtake Montgomery County Friday night, having overcome a 15 point early game shortcoming, and falling to the Lady Indians, so were our Mustangs unable to sustain their rally throughout the fourth quarter, as we were outscored 16-7 allowing the Tigers to retake the lead and draw off for the 60-56 win.
We will take on the other set of 9th Region Tigers, visiting Bellevue on Wednesday night at 7:30pm for an engagement with the Black and Gold edition of the Tigers.
