Freshmen Mustangs, the Bigger, Stronger, More Mature Team on this night, cap off the regular season record at 9-9 with 59-40 win over Holy Cross

Ben Volmer

Our Freshman Mustangs closed out their regular season on Wednesday night in the SyDome, defeating the Holy Cross Indians 59-40 behind the double-figure scoring efforts of Joe Schroeder, who led the team with 13 points, and Ben Volmer who contributed 10.  In total 9 Mustangs scored in this game.  Dom Hadden and Parker Mulberry both scored 8 points apiece, with Mulberry knocking down a pair of 3-pointers.  In total our guys hit six 3s on the night.  Keegan Gulley, Luke Alwell, Andrew Lusby, and Emmerson Schwegmann accounted for the other four.

We will play in the Northern Kentucky “Jack Kaelin Memorial” Freshman Tournament starting this Saturday at 11:15am when we take on Boone County at Covington Catholic High School. .

Joe Schroeder

Joe Schroeder has grown into a strong, reliable inside force for the freshman team.  He and Ben Volmer combined for 23 of our 59 points versus Holy Cross.  For Volmer this was his third consecutive double-figures scoring outing, and his fourth in the last five games.

We started this season with losses to Covington Catholic and Pendleton County before defeating Bracken County.  Our record would fall to 1-5 prior to defeating Harrison County on December 22nd in Cynthiana..  Our 64-47 win over Franklin County at Mason County on New Year’s Eve proved to be a turnaround game, after which we would go 6-3 with wins over big schools Boone County and Dixie Heights, along with a rivalry win over NCC, conference wins over St. Henry, Holy Cross and NCC, and a district win over the Scott Eagles.

Keegan Gulley is one of the three freshmen who pulled double-duty with the JV Team. He is a raw-talented athlete, equally as capable on the hardwood or the gridiron.

Domyniq Hadden is perhaps our most improved Freshman Mustang who has developed into a big, strong guard, and has developed confidence in his ability to handle the ball, and score.

Parker Mulberry wasted no time in making a huge impression, knocking down six 3-pointers on Green - White Night. During the regular season Mulberry has nailed 17 long-range bombs.
Coach Curtis Bezold has done a masterful job juggling players and creating a competitive, cohesive , unit.
Witty and productive, Tyler Holtz has made contributions coming off of the bench this season.
