Congratulations to Bella Rowe and Jill Planeaux – Named to the 10th Region All-Tournament Team!!!
In his pregame interview Coach Steve Brown and I both agreed that it was important to be contentious early, and not fall far behind the Montgomery County Lady Indians, especially since that was the scenario back on December 9th when the Lady Indians had their way with us in a 30 point loss.
Today’s game was a different story, as we not only kept it close but led 12-10 after a quarter, and expanded the lead to 20-11 with 4:30 remaining in the half. It was at that point that we were outscored 9-0 and did not retaliate until only seconds remained on the clock when Jill Planeaux hit a basket just before the halftime horn. We had squandered a nine point lead and now led 22-20 at intermission. MoCo went on a 5-0 run to begin the second half, to which we responded by putting up the next 6 to retake the lead 28-26. When the dust settled in the third period the Lady Indians had pushed back out to a 34-29 lead.. We weren’t done yet, as we cut the Tribe lead to 38-37 with 3:47 to play in the game, when Allie Dillon hit what I considered to be an ill-advised 3-Pointer to give MoCo the lead for good as we continued to keep it close all of the way to the wire There had been another pivotal call earlier when it appeared that a MoCo player had lost control of the ball out of bounds, which was so ruled by the under-official looking at the play. A second official intervened, overruling the original call, which MoCo scored on following the reversal. Had Dillon not hit the “3”, we rebounded and scored, we would have been up 39-38 instead of now trailing 41-37, and had they not scored on the overturned call, momentum might have remained in a despicable white Brossart jersey. As they say, If ifs and buts were candy an nuts…
This dropped the curtain on the 2022-23 Bishop Brossart basketball season. The ladies finish at 22-12, after being the Berea Holiday Tournament Runners Up, The 10th Region “A” Champs, An “A” State Quarterfinalist, the 37th District Champions for the third straight time, and 20 game winners for the fifth straight time, along, now, with finishing in the 10th Region Final Four. It closes the book on the careers of Bella Rowe and Jill Planeaux who were named All-Tournament, and also Molly Kramer, Claire Hummel, Cora Bertsch, and Olivia Lloyd, who is injured and did not play vs Montgomery County today. In addition to the team accolades, their coach Steve Brown, was named the 2022-23 Coach of the Year – NoKyGirls Basketball and the 10th Region KABC.
Congratulations to Coach Brown, his staff, and our Lady Stangs on a fine season.
