The 2024 Baseball Season In Review

While our Mustangs finished their season with an unimpressive 11-18 record, one run losses to Beechwood and CovCath, says that this was a very capable baseball team.   Five of our hitters averaged over .300.

Sophomore Isaac Amin was the team’s leading hitter at .354, with Ben Doyle a close second at .342.  Ben Volmer and Keegan Gulley hit .333, and Alex Amin batted .315.  As a team we hit .287 on the season.

Issac also led the team in doubles with 9, while Ben Volmer added 6, and Alex Amin 5.  Both Alex Amin and Keegan Gulley recorded triples.

I was impressed with the number of home runs this team hit, seeing that none of the returning players had hit a home run in 2023.  Isaac and Alex Amin, along with Ben Volmer hit two round-trippers.   Keegan Gulley, Ben Doyle, and Luke Bertsch also hit home runs.

Luke Bertsch led the team by taking 15 bases on balls, while Keegan Gulley took 12 free passes.

Ben Doyle led the team in RBIs with 22, followed closely by 20 from Alex Amin.  Isaac Amin led the team by a sizable margin in the runs scored department with 27.  The next closest was Ben Doyle with 18.  Doyle led the team in stolen bases by going 7 of 7,  with Ian Frank netting 6 thefts in 7 tries.

Brandon Burkhardt

Brandon Burkhardt was the team’s pitching workhorse, logging 42 innings. Coach Ron Verst sent 11 different Mustangs to the mound during the course of the season.  Alex Noe recorded six decisions at 3-3 and a 2.62 ERA.  Ben Volmer led the pitching corps striking out 31 opponents.  Burkhardt was second with 25 Ks.

Alex Noe

This Mustangs baseball team will graduate three seniors – Alex Amin, Brandon Burkhardt, and Max Keller,  They will take with them a combined batting average of .306.  6 doubles, a triple and 2 home runs. Burkhardt and Keller combined to pitch 62 innings with a combined Win-Loss record of 5-8.  While these seniors will be missed, we will return the nucleus of the 2024 Mustangs team.
