Baseball/Softball Update: Apr. 19 – 23rd

April 19th - Nicholas Co 3, BBHS 0 - 10th "A" Championship Game

Too much Dalton Davenport propels Nicholas County to 3-0 victory in the 10th Region Championship Game.  Davenport goes distance on the mound, allows only 3 hits while striking out 16.  Evan Moore, minus allowing Davenport a first inning three run home run, pretty much duplicated the Nicholas County ace’s efforts, giving up 3 scattered singles, two of them to Davenport, while sitting down 11 Blue Jackets on strikes.  Nicholas County will take on Beechwood in the 9th/10th “A” Sectional Playoffs for a berth in the “A” State Tourney.

Nicholas County reclassified senior Dalton Davenport beats Mustangs in 10th "A" Title Game For Second Consecutive Year.

Nicholas County struck for three runs in the home half of the first inning when our starter, Evan Moore, issued a walk and a single, followed by Dalton Davenport hitting a three-run home run, which would be all that he would need to post the 3-0 win, and lead his Nicholas County Blue-Jackets to their second consecutive 10th Region “A” Championship.

Davenport and Evan Moore, who both pitched complete games, combined for 27 strike outs and allowed only 3 hits each.

APRIL 19TH - LADY STANGS 10, BEECHWOOD 3
APRIL 20TH  -  BBHS 3, Highlands 2
Senior Ryan Ebert came in to the Highlands game hitting .375. His 2RBIs double was only his second double of the season, and came at a most opportune time.

Chales Hartig (Right) took to the hill on Wednesday afternoon, and won his third consecutive decision, defeating the Highlands Bluebirds 3-2.  Knotted up at ones going into the bottom half of the sixth inning, Ryan Ebert (left) connected on a 2 RBI double with the bases loaded, giving the Mustangs a 3-1 lead.  The Bluebird threatened in the seventh, but Hartig, and Colin Combs, on in relief, slammed the door and preserved the 3-2 win, our first over Highlands since 2011.

Senior hurler Chales Hartig posted his third consecutive win, taking down Bracken County, Holy Cross and Highlands, to improve to 3-1 on the season and 8-2 for his career.

On the day in addition to his double, Ebert drew two walks, and upped his batting average to .388 on the season.  Colin Combs was 1-1 with a walk an da RBI.  It is good to see Adam Bezold easing back into the Mustang lineup.  Today he walked and scored a run.  Officially, Charles Hartig went 6 2/3rds innings allowing two runs, with one of them being earned, five hits, walking four, and whiffing 3.  Combs closed out the final 2/3rds striding out on batter to face him and forcing a game ending ground out.

Mustangs improve to 4-0-1 in NKAC DIV II play, and 9-7-1 overall.  Will host Pendleton County on Thursday at 5pm.

APRIL 20TH  -  HIGHLANDS 5,  LADY STANGS 2.
APRIL 21st  -  BBHS 9 , Pendleton COunty 0
Mitchell Combs improves to 3-1 on the season with a complete game shutout of Pendleton County
Colin Combs blasted a Grand Slam Home Run, his third round-tripper of the season, and Adam Bezold (right) also contributed a three run blast in the same inning, as the Mustangs put up 8 runs in the home half of the fourth inning.

Mustangs post 10th season win with a 9-0 complete game shutout over Pendleton County by Mitchell Combs.  We exploded for 8 runs in the home half of the fourth inning, on the merits of a three run blast by Adam Bezold, (2nd HR) and a Grand Slam round-tripper by Colin Combs (3rd HR) .  In pitching the complete game shutout, Combs improves to 3-1 on the season allowing five Pendleton County hits.  He struck out 4 and issued a pair of free passes.  PCo senior Brice Redden went 2 for 3 on the afternoon with a double to pace the Wildcats offense.  The Mustangs will face Boone County on Friday, who will see a different Mustangs team than the one they beat up on back on April 1st, when we were without our seniors.  This game, which is part fo the Doc Morris Classic, will be played at 5:30pm at Simon Kenton High School.

APRIL 21ST - LADY 'STANGS VS CAMPBELL COUNTY - CANCELLED WEATHER
April 22nd  -  BBHS 6,  BOONE CO  3 - Doc Morris Classic

Eight different Mustangs collected hits in this game with Colin Combs going 2 for 4 with a walk and an RBI.  Evan Moore hit his sixth home run of the season and collected his 34th and 35th RBIs.  He also walked twice and crossed the plate on one occasion.  Andrew Beck helped his own cause with a double and an RBI.  Brandon Bezold, Adam Bezold, Keegan Gulley, Logan Meyer and Ryan Ebert also had hits.  Our 11-7-1 Mustangs will play a quality opponent on Saturday when they take on Fredrick Douglass at 12 Noon again at Simon Kenton H.S., the site of Friday’s win.

The depth of this ball team is shown by the number of different players pictured on these pages. On Friday Senior Andrew Beck became the fourth Brossart starting pitcher in our past four games to either go the distance or pictch six complete innings. Beck limited Boone County to 3 runs on 7 hits and was the winning pitcher.
