It came down to the wire on Wednesday, with the Mustangs taking home the win on a dramatic walk-off single in late innings that sealed their victory over Covington Catholic. The game was tied at seven with the Mustangs batting in the bottom of the eighth, when Brandon Bezold singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.
Our boys built a six-run lead in the fourth inning and then held off the Cov Cath charge, who scored seven runs in the failed comeback on five scoring singles.
The Mustangs fired up the offense in the second inning, scoring one run when Sam Willike singled on a 2-2 count, scoring a run and knotted the game up at seven in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Bishop Brossart Mustang Varsity scored five runs in the fourth inning. Derek Martin, Robbie Verst, and Evan Moore each drove in runs during the inning.
Moore took the win, who went eight innings, allowing seven runs on ten hits, striking out ten and walking one.
The offense totaled 14 hits in the game. Bezold, Willike, Martin, and Moore all had multiple hits. Willike and Bezold each collected three hits to lead the team.
The Mustangs was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Colin Combs had the most chances in the field with 12.
What an amazing way to finish the last home game for the team!
