Mustangs face a major physical/mental challenge Friday night vs the Lloyd Memorial Juggernauts
I was happy to see this game on our schedule when it came out. This is an opportunity to dip our toes into slightly deeper water. I have always considered the Juggs a mid-major, not quite the caliber of Cooper, Ryle, Dixie, etc., but a team that has been comparable to the Scotts, Boone Counties, and Conners of the world, and has been superior to its Class 1A opponents over the years. They represent Brossart’s next level, a hurdle that it would be nice to clear.
We remember Lloyd from our Class 2A days where they were actually our closest opportunity for a win, falling 32-27 back on Sept. 30th, 2011. We also lost to them 28-13, 33-7, and 49-17 in sequential seasons. A year ago they beat Bellevue 54-0, Ludlow 28-7, Holy Cross 21-14, and Newport 20-13. You get the picture.
The Juggs come to Alexandria with a pair of wins and another pair of losses, most recently to Boone County 26-6. This is a winnable game, BUT we will have to play well to get it done. They beat Grant County 62-26.
Key players of note: Senior Quarterback #12 – Hayden Spencer 27 for 46 through the air with 5 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. Averages 125 yards per game through the air. #25 – Junior running back, Kaiden Zulager 44 carriers for 336 yards and 5 touchdowns, averages 84 yards per game. Leading defender #27 Senior Jeramiah Lyles – 21 tackles to date.
While we are far from 100%, the setup for this challenging hurdle comes at a perfect time for us. We are undefeated at 4-0, our defense has not allowed a single point, and we are playing them at home – a perfect prep race for the upcoming District seeding games which lie two weeks in our future.
Game time is 7pm at the MAC, with the live audio broadcast and the NFHS Voice-over airing at 6:40pm.
Our Brossart JVs will be in action at 10am on Saturday morning taking on Lloyd in Erlanger.
