Camels Knock Down Ten Threes and win That Category 10-0 Over our Mustangs - Jake Gross Nails Five of Them
In a game that creates incredible highs and depressingly lows, Thursday night’s 37th District Championship Game would probably fall into the latter category, as Campbell County dominated in every facet of the game, after breaking open a 13-10 close encounter just prior to the conclusion of the first quarter.
It happened quickly. Brossart trailed 13-10 with mere seconds remaining in the first period, when the Camels’ Aydan Hamilton scored just ahead of the buzzer, spearheading a Camels 12-0 run that would provide them a 25-10 lead before we would score again. The Camels expanded the lead to 36-21 at halftime, and that was that.
Much as they did on Tuesday night against Calvary Christian, the Camels played happy and everything seemed to be falling for them. On the night they nailed ten three-point goals, while the Mustangs failed to connect on any of our attempts from beyond the arc – a 30 point advantage to the district top seed.
Campbell County feasted on our efforts to feed Govan on the block, and had success getting deflections and steals on the perimeter.
Nothing much changed in the second half, as Coach Aric Russell liberally exercised his bench, keeping fresh legs in the game, as his team outscored their crosstown neighbors 39-11, posting the 75-32 victory.
The 10th Region Tournament implications are Campbell County will get either Bracken County, Paris, or the loser of Friday night’s Harrison County/Robertson County’s 38th District Championship game. Brossart’s options are GRC, Mason County, or the winner of the Harrison/Robertson game.
Four Camels posted double-figures performances – Jake Gross – 21, Garrett Siry – 16, Eric Davie – 11, and Aydan Hamilton – 10. David Govan’s 12 point outing was our only double-figure output.
For their efforts Gross, Davie, and Hamilton were named to the All-Tournament team from Campbell County. Mason Sepate and David Govan represented the Mustangs on the All-Tournament team.
