Officiating is a variable, much like free-throw and 3-point shooting.  In this case is was pretty much non-existent, resulting in bare-knuckle boxing for the most part, especially in the first half where the physicality of the game was over the top, borderline brutality, to the extent that neither team was able to function. In the first quarter the Lady Eagles came ready to play, and with a vocal large Scott crowd fueling them, Scott outplayed us, sped us up, and led 15-7 after a quarter. Our girls seemingly benefitted  from the mayhem that ensued in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Eagles 9-4, to close the gap to three at intermission 19-16. In a slightly more peaceful environment in the third quarter, we again held a 10-8 edge, and now trailed by only a single point at 27-26, but had lost the services of Olivia Lloyd with an injured knee. The second half, on paper, was quite contentious with seven ties and seven lead changes, resulting n a 35-35 tie at the end of regulation. Bella Rowe was instrumental down the stretch nailing four blue-chip free-throws, while Zoee Meyers got us out of the gate in OT with a big field-goal and Molly Kramer netted a 3-point play, the old fashioned way. In overtime the differential in free-throws made contributed to the final score as we hit on 4 of 6, while the Lady Eagles could not muster a make in three attempts. The win was our 21st of the season and our third consecutive 37th District Championship. We will play a district loser, either Monday or Tuesday next week in the Mason County Fieldhouse.  The pairings will be determined at the Saturday morning draw meeting at Harrison County High School. Jill Planeaux and Olivia Lloyd were named to the All-Tournament Team, while Molly Kramer was tabbed the MVP.  Kayla and Kala Peterson were named to the All-Tournament team for Scott, who will also play in next week’s 10th Regional Girls Tournament in Maysville. The field is set for next week’s annual rite of spring in Maysville – Brossart and GRC are winners. Scott and Montgomery County are losers.  Nicholas County will play Pendleton County and St. Patrick will take on Bracken County Thursday night to fill the remaining four spots. Note the correction in red.
