Game Report

Just when we thought it was safe to put this one in the win column, up 58-39 at halftime,  and espouse the fact that our Mustangs were going to be 4-0 for the first time since 2013-14, a funny thing happened in the second half – we were outscored 42-32, as the gritty Ludlow Panthers made a game of it.

Much like our encounter with Newport where the Cats cut the Mustangs lead to two late in the game, these Panthers got it to within five, at 76-71 with just over four minutes to play in the game, when we then outscored them 14-10 to preserve the victory and put that fourth ball of the season on the wall.  Five Mustangs put up double-figures led by Logan Woosley with 20, Brandon Bezold 19, Mason Sepate 15, Anthony Kruse 11, and Luke Schumacher 10, all in the first half.  Ludlow football quarterback can ball as he led all scorers with 40 points, and Spencer Brandenberg knocked home four 3 pointers while contributing 16.  I was impressed with Luldow’s ability to play so hard for 32 minutes, and predict that they will win their next seven games, leading up to a major challenge against St. Henry on December 22nd.  Our Mustangs will get some much-needed time away from hoops wars, while preparing for Beechwood this coming Wednesday in Fort Mitchell, the home of the 17 time State Football Champions – Beechwood.

ur JVs made easy work of the JV Panthers as they too had nine players score, led by Dom Hadden with 17.  Caleb Moher came from off the bench to put up 13, and Keegan Gulley 9 in posting their third win in four outings.

Our Freshmen enjoyed the class relief of escaping Division I competition, handing the homestanding Ludlow Panthers a 46-18 setback in a game which saw nine Mustangs put ink in the scorebook, led by Ben Doyle’s 10 points.  Logan Blau and Isaac Amin both added 7 each.  I’m sorry to report that Freshman Jackson Steffen will undergo surgery to repair kneecap damage, and will be out indefinitely. The Freshmen will be home Monday evening in a stand-alone 7pm event with Newport.  We will broadcast that game live starting at 6:45pm.
