Mustangs Shutout Camels In Triple Header

Andy Goodman September 7, 2021 10:16 pm
All 3 squads delivered a shutout tonight, scoring 10 total goals

‘Stangs headed 3 miles south, as CCHS hosted the triple-header cross-town kickoff between the Mustangs and Camels. Throughout most the night, our 3 squads were firing on all cylinders.

The Freshman team battled in an early afternoon 2-0 win, with the first Mustang goal scored by Freshman Luke Alwell. Seventh grader, Jax Clark, scored his first BBHS goal to seal deal.

The momentum continued in our favor with the JV squad defeating the Camels 2-0.  Goals scored by Sophomores Ryan Clines and Alvaro Gerboles Lopez.

The Varsity Mustangs didn’t waste much time as Senior Tyler Twehues sailed a throw-in from the left sideline and found Sophomore Tyler Smith, who scored his 9th goal of the season with 33:10 left in the half. Just five minutes later, Brennan Callahan put one past the keeper, putting the Mustangs up 2-0.

Junior Ivan Rodero Lopez got in the action, scoring a goal of his own (his first Varsity goal at BBHS) with 7:36 left in the half, but the Mustangs weren’t finished just yet. Sophomore Landon Guidugli found the back of the net as he also scored his first Varsity goal with just 44 seconds to go in the first half.  Mustangs led 4-0 at half.

The Camels held strong in the first 18 minutes of the second half. With an unlucky Mustang handball in the box, Senior Josh Rittinger lined up for a penalty kick.  With a perfectly-timed dive to his left, Junior Goalkeeper Lucas Steffen notched a beautiful save on the Rittinger PK!

The Mustangs added two more goals, one by Junior Landon Bain at the 11:28 mark & Tyler Smith chalked up his team-leading 10th goal of the season with under 2 minutes to play.

With Lucas Steffen’s clean sheet and his teammates capitalizing on the offensive end, the Mustangs headed home with a 6-0 win over the Camels.

The boys compete in the 10th Region Finals against Paris on Saturday 9/11. Game time is scheduled for (TIME CHANGE) 12:30pm and will be played at the Paris Athletic Complex in Paris, KY. The Lady Mustangs play just before the boys, also against Paris at 10:00 (also a time change). Unfortunately, audio and video feeds are not available for these games.

Our Freshman boys will take on Holy Cross in the Freshman Regional, Friday 9/10 @8:00PM.  The game will be played at Town & Country in Wilder.  With a win, the boys will keep advancing with possible games at games at 10:15AM, 12:45PM and 7:30PM on Saturday September 11th…also at Town & Country.
