Soccer Lady ‘Stangs Overcome NCC, 4-1

Andy Goodman September 9, 2021 9:53 am
Goals scored by Ally Smith (2), Jill Planeaux and Brooklynn Meyer

The Lady Mustangs hosted 3 games last night at the MAC, where the Freshman took on Beechwood, followed by a JV & Varsity matchup against NCC.

The Freshman team battled for the full 60 minutes, but the Tigers came out on top 4-0.  A good experience for our girls, which mostly consists of 7th and 8th graders.

The JV team took to the field around 6:15 and competed well with the Thoroughbreds.  The Mustangs walked away with a 2-0 victory. The first goal was scored by Leah Malay and the second goal needed a camera inside the goal to determine if Kennedy Parks’ header crossed the line or if Luci Guidugli got a foot on it just before.  Either way, nice goal girls!  Also worth mentioning…a clean sheet by Sophomore keeper Alex Gulley, who had a great save by punching an attempted free kick over the crossbar in the second half.

In the featured event, the Varsity squad found themselves down 1-0 within 3 minutes of the initial whistle.  With some skilled footwork in the midfield, the Mustangs found Senior Ally Smith who scored twice in the next 23 minutes of game play. Video of the second goal is at the bottom of this article.  At the half, Mustangs found themselves up 2-1.

Twenty minutes into the second half, Jill Planeaux found the back of the net, giving her team a security goal and increased the lead to 3-1.

With just under 9 minutes left in the game, Sophomore Emma Sandfoss’ throw-in found Brooklynn Meyer, who slipped a shot past the NCC keeper.  The Mustangs would hold onto that 4-1 lead until the final horn and whistle.

Credit the defensive line too, who prevented many of the runs made by the ‘Breds offense.

Great game, girls!
