“Gold Sunrise” Has Lost Her Valiant Battle With ALS

Dave Schabell August 10, 2021 4:30 pm

A friend that many of us became familiar with back in the heyday of Bluegrass Preps, Royetta Stamper, who went by the name of “Gold Sunrise” has lost her long and valiant battle with ALS – Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

“Goldie” was an ardent UK and GRC basketball fan, who never missed a Boys “Sweet Sixteen” State Tournament.

She was a flashy dresser, always in her team’s colors, and would always go out of her way to stop by, and bring me an Ale 8, if we were in Winchester. She was recently diagnosed with the disease when this picture was taken in March, 2020 just before the pandemic outbreak. Her Cardinals won the 10th Region Tournament for her this spring. Her Lady Cardinals were defeated in the semis by Brossart. Score one for me.

I will always fondly remember her when we play GRC or in the GRC arena. She was a sweetheart.

This does come with a subscription fee. You may choose from a monthly or annual subscription. If you sign up via the button below, BBHS does receive a small portion of that fee.
