Freshman boys put in productive week of hoops, split in Mason County Fieldhouse, beat Lloyd at home, go to Holmes Friday, and play two at Bracken County Saturday
Freshman Mustangs overcome a late-game 23-17 Lewis County lead, gun down Lions 28-25 in the first of two games Saturday morning at the Mason County Fieldhouse. In the second contest, we actually played better basketball in a 52-40 loss to the host Royals in a contest where the scoreboard was unkind to our guys who trailed only 38-35 after three periods. Contrary to the Boys Freshman Schedule and the Media Guide our Freshmen will host Lloyd Monday night at 7pm in the SyDome in NKAC Division II competition.
In the Lewis County game, Ben Doyle led eight Mustang scorers with 8 points, while Carson Hesse took top scorer honors in the nightcap with 11 points. Nick Cozzi added 7 and Anthony Schuck and Isaac Amin 6 each.
Following their doubleheader in the Mason County Fieldhouse, Coach Bezold took his team to lunch at Fazoli’s in Maysville.
Mustangs Earn Hard-Fought Quality Victory Over Lloyd, Avenge a Lopsided Loss to Juggs in Holy Cross Holiday Tournament
On Monday night at home our freshmen continued to show improvement , avenging an earlier season loss to Lloyd 49-44. Three Mustangs put up double-figures in the contest, led by Beckett Kuntz and Anthony Schuck with 11 each and Ben Doyle, 10. Carson Hesse added 8 in the balanced scoring event.
The Mustangs led 17-7 after a period of play. It was a short-lived lead, as the Juggs narrowed the gap to 25-22 at halftime. We again re-opened a 38-28 lead, and prevailed 49-44, improving our season record to 6-8, as we close in on .500 heading to Holmes Friday night and to Bracken County for a twin-bill with the homestanding Polar Bears and Bourbon County Saturday morning.
