Freshmen Mustangs Improve to 6-4, winning three straight, in defeating Boone County 45-26 Friday Night in the SyDome
Brady Rowe (15) and Cohen Trauth (10) combine for 25 of our 46 points enroute to defeating Boone County on a game added to our schedule within the past 48 hours. Wyatt Feldman added 8.
The Mustangs broke open a 10-8, two point advantage after six minutes of play, outscoring the Class 6A Boone County Rebels 13-2 in the second period giving us a 23-10 halftime advantage, from which the Rebels were unable to recover.
With the win, the Mustangs have now reeled off three consecutive victories, and improve to 6-4 on the season. They will next play in the Holy Cross Holiday Tournament beginning on Thursday when we take on another 6A school, Dixie Heights, in the opening round.
Five Mustangs Record Double-Figures in Offensive/Defensive Domination of Bracken County in 86-54 Win. Improve To 5-2 as Parker Stays Hot- Hits Four More 3s, and Brady Boruske Busts Out With 15. Will lay off until after Christmas and Return on Dec. 27th at home vs New Richmond.
JVs Take a 57-47 Loss To Hot-Shooting Bears
Ben Doyle paced five Mustang double-figure scorers, and a total of eight Mustangs to put ink in the book, which included sophomore Brendan Hill, who scored his first varsity points in a big way with a 3-point goal. Doyle contributed 17, while Parker Mulberry had 16, bringing him to within five points of joining the “500 Points Club.” Brady Boruske had a bust out night with 15, Beckett Kuntz poured in 12, and Carson Hesse came off of the bench to score 10. Noah Nelson who scored 12 points a year ago in their 70-43 loss to the Mustangs, led the Polar Bears again with 22.
This one was over early, as we pushed out to an early second quarter 33-7 lead and would never look back. A tenacious half court run/jump defense was the catalyst, and being played by a roster of veterans made it effective.
With the win, our second in 24 hours, the Mustangs improve to 5-2 on the season, and will lay off over Christmas until we host New Richmond on Friday, December 27th for a tripleheader.
Parker Mulberry To The Rescue - Hits Six 3's, Scoring 25 Points, And We Needed Every One Of Them To Defeat Holmes 65-61 In Overtime, In Covington
On three occasions last year, one of which was against Holmes in Alexandria, Parker Mulberry hit five threes in games, but on this night in the David Evans Memorial Fieldhouse in Covington, it took a career-high six of them to get his team to overtime, and then defeat the homestanding Bulldogs, 65-61. Mulberry put up 25 points on the night.
Alex Combs got us out of the gate early, scoring 8 points in the first half. He finished with 10 on the night. Just prior to the half we attempted to gain some separation widening our lead to 25-15, only to have the Dawgs answer with the final two buckets of the half, and outscoring us 15-8 overall, knotting the contest at 34 mid-third, and then poking a nose in front at 35-34. Ties of 50-50, 54-54 and 56-all would follow, as despite Mulberry’s 18 second half points, it would take extra-time to determine the winner.
Ben Doyle was our second-leading scorer with 14, hitting key free-throws in overtime. Dom Hadden and Alex Combs both recorded 10 points apiece as the Mustangs improve to 4-2, while winning our first NKAC DivII Contest of the season, and head to Brooksville for a 10th Region event with the Bracken County Polar Bears in 24 hours. Holmes Junior, Mark McCutchin, who got us for 29 points a year ago in he SyDome, led the Bulldogs with 18, and Dominic Scott added 17.

This will be played next Monday at Thomas More University, in what is being billed as the Crosstown Catholic Challenge.
