Baseball and Softball Field Update:
Mustang Athletic Complex - Baseball Field May 6, 2025
(Click/tap for a larger view)
A look at the MAC on Tuesday, May 6th. The gravel is now on the field, and the scoreboard is up. The turf surface will eventually go on top of the gravel. The lighting also appears to be in place.

A quick glance at the remainder of the Mustangs’ and Lady ‘Stangs schedules, confirms what we have feared all spring – that the MAC will not be completed in time to host any of our remaining regular season games. I will not speak for our hosting the 10th Region Tournament until the admin comes out with something official. At present all remaining Mustangs and Lady ‘Stangs baseball contests will be played at St. Mary and softball games will remain at the Alexandria Community Park.

Camels Junior Tyler Schumacher Now 5-0, Strikes Out 12 Mustangs, Allows 2 Hits, Enroute to 4-0 District Top Seed Clinching Victory

The Camels and Mustangs went toe to toe for five complete innings, with the Camels able to muster a single run in the second inning, the result of a walk and a single, before Campbell County plated two more runs in the sixth and another in the seventh, which would be plenty on this day, when the Mustangs could only generate a pair of singles, while seeing 12 go down on strikes.  The Camels sent Junior Tyler Schumacher to the mound seeking his 5th victory of the season without a loss, while Coach Ron Verst tabbed our ace, Alex Noe with the pitching assignment.  Both hurlers went the distance.  Noe allowed 4 runs on 7 hits while whiffing 3, and walking 4.  Camels Junior Camden Tiemeier had a solo home run in the home run in the seventh inning.  This completes the sweep of district opponents, Brossart, Scott and Calvary, awarding thee Camels the top seed in the upcoming 37th District tournament.  With the win the Camels are 20-8 and now won 7 of their last 8 games.  Our Mustangs fall to 12-9.  We will round out district seeding play tomorrow (Thursday) taking on Calvary Christian at 5pm at home.  We need a win over the Cougars to avoid a rematch with Campbell County in the opening round of the district tournament.  This is not a sure thing as Calvary has recorded 13 victories this season and is playing competitive baseball.  I anticipate that Senor Ben Volmer will take the mound, and have every confidence that we will put some runs on the board and get the job done.

Rachel Shewmaker hits for the cycle in a 18-5 win over Dixie!

Junior, Rachel Shewmaker, HIT FOR THE CYCLE as the Lady ‘Stangs posted their 15th victory of the season with a 18-5 win over Dixie.  On a 1-1 count in the first inning, Rachel sent a shot to centerfield resulting in a triple.  In the second inning, she found a gap in left-center for a double and drove in a run.  In the fourth inning, she sent her 7th home run over the center field wall.  And finally, on a full count in the 7th inning, Rachel hit a hard grounder between shortstop and third, solidifying the cycle!

Sophomore, Anna Bezold, notched her second complete game in two games, striking out 9 batters in the win over Dixie on Wednesday and 4 K’s in Tuesday’s win over Walton.

The Lady ‘Stangs are back in action Thursday when they host Grant County at 5:30pm, weather permitting.
